An 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Bihar allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room here in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
In a suicide note recovered from his room, the student said neither his family nor his preparation for NEET-UG was the reason behind his extreme step, police said.
The student, a native of Chapra in Bihar, was preparing for NEET-UG at a coaching institute here for around a year and living in a hostel in the Landmark City area, Circle Inspector, Kunhadi police station, Arvind Bhardwaj said.
Before taking the extreme step, the student sent a WhatsApp message to his sister, who then called the hostel caretaker and asked him to check her brother's room, Bharadwaj said.
The caretaker knocked on the door of the teenager's room but did not receive any response. He then informed police, who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. The student was found hanging inside the room, the circle inspector said.
Though the ceiling fan in the hostel room was equipped with an anti-suicide device, the student managed to tie the rope that he used to hang himself to an iron hook above the device, he added.
A suicide note was recovered from the room. In the note, the student said that neither his family nor NEET was to be blamed for his decision. He, however, did not disclose the reason, Bhardwaj said.
He said the student also requested that his name, family details or photograph not be shared with the media, he said.
The reason behind the student's extreme step is yet to be ascertained, he added.
Bhardwaj said the body has been kept at the MBS Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, which will be conducted after his family members reach here.
This is the 11th suicide by a student in Kota, the country's coaching hub, this year. The number stood at 17 last year.

The SP said local police have started the process to lodge a case of accidental death and investigation to find out the exact cause of the crash.
Four teams of local fire brigade rushed to Shastrinagar upon learning about the plane crash and resultant fire in the aircraft, said fire officer SC Gadhvi.
"Though the plane crashed into a residential area, no one else was injured because it first fell on a tree and then crashed into an open plot. The fire was eventually brought under control by our teams" he said.

Following the accident, angry villagers and relatives of the deceased blocked the Nigohi road, disrupting traffic for several hours and allegedly misbehaving with police.
"An FIR has been registered against 60 people under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rioting, obstructing public servants, and inciting others," the SP said.
"We are identifying the troublemakers through CCTV camera footage and videos shot on mobile phones. No one will be allowed to take the law into their hands, and strict action will be taken against the offenders," he added.
Police are trying to identify more individuals involved in the incident, the officer said.

The Kerala government is viewing the drugs-related allegations and case against actor Shine Tom Chacko very seriously, with the police as well as the Excise department effectively intervening in the matter, state Law Minister P Rajeev said on Tuesday.
The minister also said that no person or sector would be exempted from the ambit of the law.
Rajeev, responding to queries from reporters about the allegations by actress Vincy Aloshious against Chacko, said that the government was considering the matter very seriously and will take strict action against such behaviour as alleged against the actor.
He also said that Chacko was acquitted in an earlier case due to the failure of the police probe, according to the courts.
The minister said that the investigation back then occurred during the UDF rule, but now the government in power has taken a strict stand in the matter, and all its machinery, including the police and excise, were working in coordination.
Meanwhile, the police said that an investigation into the latest drugs case against Chacko was going on and that it would seek expediting of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report of the samples taken from the actor.
Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya also told reporters that a lot of things need to be investigated, and calling Chacko before completing that would not be beneficial for the case.
He also said that the police will be looking into the names of people who visited the actor when he was staying at the hotel from where he had allegedly fled when a District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team carried out a raid there.
Chacko has been booked under section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and sections 27 (drug consumption) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, in connection with that incident.
According to the FIR, a District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team under Kochi City Police found the actor and another person using drugs and engaged in a criminal conspiracy in Room No 314 of a hotel near Kaloor last week.
Upon noticing the police, Chacko allegedly fled through a window in an alleged attempt to destroy evidence.
Vincy Aloshious has filed a complaint with the Film Chamber, accusing Chacko of inappropriate behaviour while under the influence of drugs on a movie set.
She has also informed the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) about his misconduct on the sets of the unreleased film 'Soothravakyam', though no police complaint has been filed.
The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court had recently acquitted Chacko in a 2015 drug case, citing procedural lapses by the police during the seizure and arrest.

Andhra Pradesh CID Police reportedly arrested suspended senior police officer and former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu from Hyderabad on Tuesday over his alleged role in harassing Mumbai-based actor- model, Kadambari Narendra Kumar Jethwani.
Anjaneyulu is one of the three IPS officers who are under suspension for allegedly "hastily arresting" and "harassing" Jethwani without proper investigation in a case filed against her during the erstwhile YSRCP regime. Vishal Gunni and Kanthi Ratan Tata are the other two IPS officers.
While top police officials and sources remained tight-lipped about the development, a section of media houses, besides the ruling TDP claimed that Anjaneyulu has been 'arrested.' "IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu has been arrested for harassing a woman (Jethwani) under the directions of (former CM and YSRCP chief) Jagan Reddy, mobilising the entire government machinery," said TDP in a post on 'X'.
Working as the intelligence chief during the erstwhile YSRCP government, Anjaneyulu toed YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's line and claimed that harassing a woman (Jethwani) is a "known fact".
According to TDP, the previous government used all its might to subdue a woman (Jethwani) and compel her to "submit" but asserted that the TDP-led government is doing "justice" to her now.
Anjaneyulu, former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Tata and Gunni, then Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada were suspended last year after an inquiry revealed their role in the alleged harassment of the model.
In connection with this case, TDP said YSRCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar has already been arrested while the three officials were suspended and Anjaneyulu arrested today.

For the first time in history of Punjab, the Mann-led government has launched mass scale ponds rejuvenation exercise. Nearly 15000 ponds set to be cleaned within this year.
He further shared that around 1,100 ponds has already dewatered and nearly 400 ponds already desilted. Depending on the requirement, both desilting and re-silting operations are being carried out. The Minister recently conducted on-ground inspections in several villages of Fatehgarh Sahib district to personally oversee the progress. He will be visiting other districts to personally review all progress.
Many of these ponds, he said, had not been cleaned for decades, leading to overflow, foul odors, and mosquito breeding in the villages. Now, with this initiative, the Punjab government is actively working to reverse these conditions and create a cleaner, healthier environment, a concrete step toward realizing the vision of a &ldquo;Rangla Punjab.&rdquo; Sond revealed that the Punjab government has approved a budget of Rs. 4,573 crore for the holistic development of villages.
He further said that the government is focusing on upgrading rural infrastructure, including the maintenance and upkeep of village ponds and the development of playgrounds. Sewage treatment facilities are being ensured in villages to ensure sustainable wastewater management.
The proper care and rejuvenation of the pond are important for villages' economy and livelihoods.
The minister said that ahead of the monsoon season, the Punjab government will ensure desilting and re-silting from ponds wherever needed. This effort will also help recharge groundwater levels and contribute to addressing the issue of depleting underground water in the state.

In the Sheesh Mahal, numerous minuscule mirrors are placed on the walls in a unique arrangement. Even a single ray of light entering the palace gets reflected in a way that illuminates the entire hallway.

A day after UP DGP Prashant Kumar dismissed allegations of caste-based postings in the police force as "baseless and misleading," Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday doubled down on his claims and said the DGP should speak less and allow the chief minister to respond.
&nbsp; "DGP sahab should speak less; at the very least, the chief minister should address this. We have only revealed the state of a few districts so far," Yadav said at a press conference in Lucknow.
&nbsp; "As an opposition party, it is our duty to stay alert and question the injustices being done to PDA (Backward, Dalit, and Minority communities). That's what we're doing &mdash; fulfilling our democratic responsibility," he added.
The former chief minister accused the Yogi Adityanath government of systematically discriminating against marginalised communities in public service appointments. He reiterated that the data he cited, including lists of officers posted in the UP Special Task Force (STF) and district-level police stations in Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Mahoba and Agra, was sourced from official websites.
&nbsp; "These are not numbers I've created. These are from government websites," he said, showing screenshots and printed copies of the official data to the media.
&nbsp;Responding to the state government's rejection of his claims, Yadav questioned why political leaders were hiding behind bureaucrats.
Yadav also accused the state government of manipulating police posting data. "In the list of police stations, non-field stations like those for human trafficking or tourism are being added to artificially inflate the figures," he alleged.
&nbsp; On the broader issue of public employment, Yadav targeted the Agnipath recruitment scheme and the contractual nature of other government jobs.
"The Agniveer scheme does not offer permanent employment. On top of that, there is discrimination against Shiksha Mitras, ASHA workers and Anganwadi staff," he said.
&nbsp;Yadav also expressed concern over rising unemployment and shrinking opportunities in Uttar Pradesh. &nbsp; &nbsp;"...the government keeps coming up with new schemes to hide it (unemployment). People are not getting jobs as per their qualifications. Salaries are low, and women are working in an unsafe environment," he remarked.
&nbsp;He further alleged that political ideology had seeped into education and appointments.
&nbsp;"From the top to the bottom, appointments are being made only if you are affiliated with a certain ideology. Otherwise, you don't get hired," Yadav said.
&nbsp; The SP chief also claimed that under the BJP education is getting privatised at a rapid pace and fees are skyrocketing. It is being done to keep poor children from villages deprived of education, he alleged.
&nbsp; Yadav also said that he was open to correction and urged the media to fact-check the data he presented.

The Indian Air Force on Tuesday said it is assisting the local authorities in investigating a case involving one of its officers who has been booked in connection with an incident of road rage in Bengaluru.
"An unfortunate incident, involving an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, took place in Bengaluru yesterday. The lAF is assisting the local authorities in investigating and following up the case to its lawful resolution," the IAF said in an official statement.
According to the police, an FIR has been registered against the 40-year-old IAF officer on charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and voluntarily causing hurt based on a counter-complaint by a call centre employee, who was previously arrested on the officer's complaint in a road rage incident.
Indian Air Force Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose made an allegation in a video he shared that he was attacked and verbally abused by a group of Kannada-speaking individuals who chased him on a bike in Bengaluru early Monday morning.
Terming it a case of road rage, police arrested Vikas Kumar, who works as a team head at a software company's call centre.
Both parties have attacked each other, and some videos purportedly show the IAF officer roughing up Vikas Kumar, creating a scene for the onlookers.
The officer was captured engaging in an argument with Kumar and beating him up in full public view, even as his wife tried to stop him.
The incident occurred while the officer was on his way to the airport with his wife, who is also an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer.
A case has been registered against Shiladitya Bose under 109 (Attempt to murder), 115 (2) (Voluntarily causing hurt), 304 (Snatching), 324 (Mischief), 351 (Criminal Intimidation) and 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Byappanahalli police station based on the counter complaint given by Vikas Kumar who alleged that he was also assaulted by the officer, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Devaraj D.
Both cases are being investigated, police said.

Recently, during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over a high-level security review meeting. He emphasized the need for the complete eradication of terrorism, particularly focusing on the Jammu division, and stressed a zero-tolerance stance on infiltration.
Condemning the attack, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti stated, "Such violence is unacceptable and must be denounced."
She called for a comprehensive investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable and to scrutinize any security lapses. "Historically, Kashmir has warmly welcomed tourists, making this rare incident deeply concerning. Ensuring visitor safety is paramount, and steps must be taken to prevent future attacks," she added.
As the investigation unfolds, questions about security measures in the region and the impact on the upcoming Amarnath Yatra loom large. Authorities are urged to reinforce safety protocols to protect both citizens and visitors in this sensitive region.

Highly placed sources told PTI that Modi will also discuss issues relating to Hajj, including the quota for Indian pilgrims, during his meeting with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, in the evening.
Among the deliverables, the two sides are expected to sign agreements in the fields of space, energy, health, science and scientific research, culture and advanced technology.
On Wednesday, the prime minister, who received Saudi Arabia's highest civilian honour in 2016, will also visit a factory employing Indian workers.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday asserted that &ldquo;outsiders&rdquo; were responsible for the violence that erupted in parts of Murshidabad over the Waqf Act, and said she would visit the troubled areas in the first week of May to evaluate the situation.
Banerjee also said her government would &ldquo;soon expose the conspirators&rdquo; behind the riots that took place in two wards of Dhulian in the district.
"The violence was unfortunate. We do not want riots. Some outsiders orchestrated it, but we will expose them and their conspiracy," she said at an administrative programme in Midnapore.
"I have promised the families of those killed in the violence to give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each. We will also rebuild their houses under the 'Banglar Bari' scheme... I will be going there in the first week of May and evaluate the situation,&rdquo; Banerjee said.
Governor C V Ananda Bose had on April 19 met family members of a man and his son, who were killed during violence over anti-Waqf (Amendment) Act protests in Murshidabad district, and assured them of all possible support.
At least three people, including a father and son, died and over 280 have been arrested in connection with the violence earlier this month.
