Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said it was time Indian investigation agencies use modern technology and techniques to nab fugitives as he launched the 'Bharatpol' portal to facilitate faster international assistance for agencies.
Speaking at the launch of 'Bharatpol at the Bharat Mandapam here, the minister underlined that the real-time interface was the most important feature of the portal developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It will allow central and state agencies to easily connect with the Interpol and speed up their investigations, he said.

"It is time that we use modern technology and techniques to nab and bring to justice the fugitives who absconded from India after committing a crime," Shah said.
"We have to keep an eye on global challenges and update our internal systems. Bharatpol is a step in that direction," he said.
He said the new portal will allow central and state probe agencies to share and obtain information on their cases from the 195 member nations of the Interpol.
The three new criminal laws brought by the Modi government last year will ensure that trials against fugitives and absconders are conducted in a better manner.
"I would urge the CBI to take the responsibility of training the states for capacity building regarding Bharatpol and also for the three new criminal laws," Shah said.
"We need to institutionalise these systems along with the knowledge of various kinds of Interpol notices and their procedures," he said.
PTI first reported about the setting up of the 'Bharatpol' portal.
The CBI and the National Central Bureau of India are responsible for Interpol-related affairs.

"I am deeply saddened by the news of the loss of DRG soldiers in an IED blast in Bijapur (Chhattisgarh). I express my deepest condolences to the families of the brave soldiers.

A two-month-old boy admitted to a private hospital in Ahmedabad has been detected with Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection, an official said on Monday.
Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel asked people not to panic and said the state government has made preparations to tackle the viral infection.
The infant, who hails from Dungarpur in Rajasthan, was admitted to the hospital, located in Chandkheda locality here, on December 24 with symptoms of respiratory infection.
After tests, he was found positive for the HMPV, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's in-charge medical officer of health Bhavin Solanki said.
"HMPV (infection) was detected in the patient on December 26, but we learnt about it today as the private hospital reported it to us late," Solanki said.
The patient was kept in isolation, the official said.
Earlier, the child was kept on a ventilator, and his condition is stable now, Solanki said.
Before this, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has detected two cases of HMPV in Karnataka through routine surveillance for multiple respiratory viral pathogens.
Patel said the state Health and Family Welfare Department is on alert and has made preparations and arrangements to tackle this viral infection.
"As part of the precautionary measures, the health department held a meeting on January 4 and instructed every chief district health officer, civil surgeon, superintendents of sub-district hospitals in the state to pay full attention to matters related to the infection of this virus," he said.
Arrangements will be made for the diagnosis of HMPV in various government hospitals, the minister said.
He asked people not to panic, but understand the viral infection symptoms and take measures accordingly.
The Union health ministry has emphasised that HMPV is already in circulation globally, including in India, and cases of respiratory illnesses associated with it have been reported in various countries.
Furthermore, based on the current data from the ICMR and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) network, there has been no unusual surge in Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) or Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases in the country, it said.
Amid reports of rising cases of respiratory illnesses in China in the past few weeks, a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) was held under the chairmanship of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.

Eight jawans of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and a civilian driver were killed after Naxals blew up their vehicle with a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Monday, police said.
This was the biggest strike by Maoists on security forces in the state in the last two years and the first assault in 2025.
Maoists detonated the IED near Ambeli village under Kutru police station area at around 2.15 pm when DRG personnel from Dantewada district were returning in their Scorpio vehicle after an anti-Naxalite operation, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P said.
All eight DRG jawans travelling in the SUV and the driver of the vehicle were killed on the spot, the official added.
The DRG is a unit of the state police and its personnel are mostly recruited from local tribal population and also from surrendered Naxalites.
Reinforcement was rushed to the spot and the bodies of the deceased were being evacuated, he said.
A search operation has been launched in the area by security forces, the IPS officer informed.
These DRG personnel were involved in an anti-Naxalite operation carried out for three days on the borders of Narayanpur, Dantewada and Bijapur districts by joint teams of security personnel, the IG said.
Five Naxalites were killed in the three-day-long operation and one DRG head constable also lost his life, he said.
After the operation, DRG personnel from Dantewada were returning to their base in the vehicle when the attack occurred in Kutru area, Sundarraj added.
The last site is around 400 km from state capital Raipur. Visuals from the spot showed a huge crater, more than 10-feet deep, splitting the concrete road after the blast.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the explosion while dismembered bodies were seen placed on plastic sheets. A part of the vehicle was seen hanging on a nearby tree.
Expressing grief over the death of DRG personnel and the civilian driver, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said Naxalites are frustrated with the ongoing counter-insurgency operation in the Bastar region and therefore, have resorted to such cowardly acts.
Martyrdom of jawans will not go in vain, he asserted.
"The news of the martyrdom of 8 jawans and a driver in an IED blast carried out by Naxalites in Kutru of Bijapur district is extremely sad. My condolences are with the families of the martyrs. I pray to God to rest the souls of the martyred soldiers in peace and provide strength to the bereaved families," Sai said in a statement.
"Naxalites are frustrated with the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in Bastar and have committed such cowardly act out of frustration. The martyrdom of the soldiers will not go in vain. Our fight to end the menace will continue strongly," he added.
In the past, numerous attacks have taken place on security forces in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, comprising seven districts including Dantewada, using IEDs.
In the last major assault, ten police personnel and a civilian driver were killed after Naxals blew up their vehicle, part of a convoy carrying security personnel in neighbouring Dantewada district, on April 26, 2023.

An initial investigation revealed that the couple had poisoned their children before taking their own lives by hanging. Following the detection of two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Monday that he has instructed the health and medical education departments to implement necessary precautionary measures.
Siddaramaiah stated, "There is information regarding the HMPV or China virus infection in Karnataka. I have directed the health department to take preventive steps, and I have spoken to Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Both the Health and Medical Education departments will work together to control the situation."
The two cases, both involving children, were identified through routine surveillance for respiratory viral infections. A three-month-old female infant, diagnosed with bronchopneumonia, tested positive for HMPV after being admitted to Baptist Hospital in Bengaluru. She has since been discharged. An eight-month-old male infant, also with a history of bronchopneumonia, tested positive on January 3 and is currently recovering. Neither patient had a history of international travel.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed the cases on Monday, with the Union Health Ministry stating that although HMPV is not considered a dangerous virus, precautionary actions must still be taken. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) in Karnataka reassured the public, noting that the virus is not as easily transmissible as COVID-19.
While the virus mainly affects children and presents symptoms similar to the common cold, hospitals have been instructed to report any cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) or severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). To prevent further spread, people are advised to practice good hygiene, such as covering their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, frequently washing hands, and avoiding public places if symptomatic. The advisory also warned against sharing tissues, towels, and linen, and discouraged spitting in public.
HMPV causes flu-like symptoms, including cough, fever, nasal congestion, and shortness of breath. In more severe cases, it can lead to bronchitis or pneumonia, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. The virus spreads through respiratory droplets, close contact, and by touching contaminated surfaces.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) all-India quota seat (AIQ), which was scheduled to start on July 6, has been deferred till further notice. This comes after the Supreme Court&rsquo;s refusal to delay the NEET UG counselling scheduled to be held on July 6. Telugu actor Allu Arjun on Tuesday visited the boy, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital here after suffering serious injury in a stampede at the premiere of his latest film Pushpa 2.
Earlier, Arjun was scheduled to visit the hospital on January 5 but the plan was cancelled.
The actor is added as accused No 11 in the case filed after a woman died and her eight-year-old son sustained serious injuries in the stampede on December 4.
During Allu Arjun's visit to the hospital on Tuesday, Telangana State Film Development Corporation (FDC) Chairman Dil Raju was also present. Security was enhanced at the hospital in view of the actor's visit.
The SHO of Ramgopalpet Police Station had issued a notice to Allu Arjun regarding his proposed visit to the hospital and advised him to keep it confidential so that public order could be maintained in and around the hospital.
The SHO said police would make necessary arrangements for his visit.
The 'Pushpa' actor had earlier said that he remained deeply concerned about the boy, who is under constant medical care after the incident. He wished the boy a speedy recovery and said he is looking forward to meeting him and his family, but was advised not to due to ongoing legal proceedings.
The stampede occurred at Sandhya theatre in Hyderabad on December 4 as fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the actor during the Pushpa 2 premiere.
Following the tragedy, a case was registered against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management at the Chikkadpally police station. The charges were filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint by the deceased woman&rsquo;s family.
He was arrested on December 13 in connection with the case. However, the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail on December 14. He was granted regular bail by a city court on January 3.

The SC said it would only examine the issue on medical grounds.
On August 29, 2024, the Gujarat High Court rejected Asaram's plea seeking the suspension and found no case to grant him the reprieve.
The trial court in January, 2023, convicted Asaram in the 2013 case, filed by a woman who lived in his ashram near Gandhinagar when the alleged crime took place.
Asaram is currently lodged in a Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan in another rape case.

DMK Deputy General Secretary Kanimozhi accused the BJP-led central government of appointing R.N. Ravi as the Governor of Tamil Nadu with the intent to create trouble for the DMK government and insult Tamils. Addressing a large protest, Kanimozhi stated that the position of Governor was not meant for political purposes, and if Ravi was uninterested in attending the Legislative Assembly, he was welcome to take leave.
The protest, which took place across the state, was sparked by Ravi&rsquo;s decision to walk out of the Assembly without delivering the customary address prepared by the state government at the start of this year&rsquo;s maiden session. The Raj Bhavan later claimed that Ravi left in &ldquo;deep anguish&rdquo; over what it described as insults to the Constitution and national anthem during the session. Kanimozhi condemned this as the third instance of the Governor disrespecting the Assembly, emphasizing that under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the DMK would overcome all obstacles posed by the BJP government through the Governor.
Kanimozhi warned that there was a limit to Stalin&rsquo;s patience and that the Governor&rsquo;s recall would happen soon. DMK Organization Secretary R.S. Bharathi joined the protest, accusing Ravi of attempting to break five decades of tradition by skipping the customary address. He argued that Ravi&rsquo;s refusal to read the government&rsquo;s address lacked any valid reason and was driven by jealousy over Tamil Nadu&rsquo;s success under Stalin&rsquo;s leadership.
In response, BJP Mahila Morcha President and legislator Vanathi Srinivasan criticized the DMK for undermining the Governor&rsquo;s position, claiming it had become a habit for the ruling party to portray the Governor&rsquo;s actions as disrespectful. She defended Ravi&rsquo;s insistence on playing the national anthem, pointing out that it is followed in other states like West Bengal and Kerala, and criticized the DMK for wanting a separate procedure for Tamil Nadu.
