PM Modi encourages diversification in Uttarakhand tourism

Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand) | March 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged people to diversify the Uttarakhand tourism sector while promoting the Winter Tourism Programme, saying that no season should be off-season.

Addressing a rally in Harsil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a transformation in Uttarakhand's tourism sector by promoting winter tourism and turning the state into a year-round tourist destination.

Emphasizing the need for diversification, he urged that no season should be considered off-season, advocating for a 'Barahmasi' (12-month) tourism approach. "Tourists need to experience the unparalleled beauty of Uttarakhand throughout the year, especially in winter," PM Modi remarked, highlighting the current trend where tourism peaks from March to June but dwindles thereafter, leaving many accommodations vacant.

He believes showcasing Uttarakhand's winter charm can rectify this imbalance and ensure consistent tourism. PM Modi also expressed optimism about the future, proclaiming this decade as the decade of Uttarakhand, a sentiment he first articulated during a visit to Kedarnath.

He credits the blessings of Baba Kedarnath for slowly manifesting this vision into reality.

Highlighting infrastructural progress under the current government, PM Modi spoke about significant projects like the Chardham All Weather Road, modern expressways, and the rapid expansion of transportation services.

The recently approved Kedarnath and Hemkund Ropeway Projects exemplify these efforts. The Kedarnath Ropeway, once completed, will reduce travel time from 8-9 hours to about 30 minutes, significantly easing the pilgrimage route for many, including the elderly and children.

Additionally, PM Modi extended his condolences to the victims of a recent avalanche in Chamoli district, lauding the unity displayed by the country during these trying times.

The Uttarakhand government, as part of its initiative, has launched a Winter Tourism programme, drawing thousands to the winter seats of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, aiming to boost religious tourism and fortify the local economy, homestays, and tourism-related enterprises.
