PM Modi on video of naked women being paraded in Manipur: 'Can never be forgiven'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the Manipur situation for the first time since violence broke out in the state on May 3.

Speaking ahead of the first day of the Parliament's Monsoon Session, Modi reacted to the video of two Manipur women being paraded naked and molested in May.

While calling the incident unforgivable, Modi said that all state governments must ensure the safety of women.

"My heart is filled with pain and anger. The entire nation is ashamed. 140 crore Indians are being shamed," he said.

"I appeal to all CMs to strengthen the law and order situation, especially for the safety of our mothers and daughters. Whether the incident is of Rajasthan or Chhattisgarh or Manipur, in any part of this country, in states ruled by any party, we need to rise above political bickering to ensure the rule of law and respect for women," Modi added.

He concluded by saying, "None of the perpetrators will be spared. What has happened to daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven."
