Adani-Hindenburg row: Congress wants probe by Chief Justice of India or Joint Parliamentary Committee

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Narendra Modi govt of exerting pressure on public banks to provide credit to the Adani Group.

Adani-Hindenburg row: Congress wants probe by Chief Justice of India or Joint Parliamentary Committee

With the controversy over Hindenburg Research's report on the Adani Group still brewing, the Opposition on 2 February targeted the Narendra Modi government after being denied a discussion on the issue in Parliament.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said, "We had decided to raise, in one voice, incidents of economic scams in the Parliament. We wanted a discussion, but our notices are always rejected. Important issues raised by us are not allowed to be discussed."

Commenting on the Adani row without taking the group's name, Kharge said, "Regarding that company, a report was released by US-based Hindenburg Research. Subsequently, the value of shares of the company declined. Many people went into shock. The government has created this situation."

"Why is the government giving money to such companies? Why does the government exert pressure to ensure money is given to these companies?" he added.

The Congress chief demanded an investigation into the issue, saying, "There should be a probe into LIC, SBI, other government entities giving money to such companies. Either a Joint Parliamentary Committee should be set up, or an inquiry headed by Chief Justice of India."
