Delhi High Court reserves order in Arvind Kejriwal's plea against arrest

The Delhi High Court on April 3 reserved its order in Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.

The ED opposed Kejriwal's plea saying that criminals and undertrials cannot evade arrest just because elections are coming.

“Criminals and undertrials have no business to say that we will commit a crime and will not be arrested because elections are here,” said Additional Solicitor General SV Raju.

“This is completely ridiculous. It will give license to criminals to roam around freely. Aam aadmi has to go behind bars if he has committed a crime but because you are a chief minister you can't be arrested? You will loot the country but no one can touch you because the elections are coming? You say your arrest will infringe on basic structure? What type of basic structure is this?” he added.

Appearing for Kejriwal, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi told the court that there is no evidence linking the proceeds of crime to the Aam Aadmi Party chief.

Singhvi asserted that it is preposterous to say that the chief minister of Delhi would be involved in hawala transactions.
