Mamata's TMC to abstain from the vice-presidential elections

The Trinamool Congress will not take part in the elections to choose the country's next vice-president, party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee announced on Thursday.

Banerjee said that the TMC is not happy with the way the joint Opposition nominee for polls was named. He claimed that the TMC was not consulted before the name of Congress veteran Maragret Alva was announced as the joint Opposition's vice-presidential candidate.

He also said that there was no question of supporting the NDA nominee in the election and therefore the TMC would abstain from voting.

The NDA has announced West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar's name as the candidate for the elections.
