Udaynidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin, has sparked a row after calling for the abolition of the 'sanatana dharma'.

Udaynidhi compared 'sanatana dharma' to dengue and malaria while saying that it should not just be opposed but eradicted.

The Tamil Nadu minister was speaking a gathering called Sanatana Abolition Conference on Saturday.

He said that 'sanatana dharma' is against social justice and equality.

Hitting out at Udaynidhi, BJP's Amit Malviya said that the DMK leader was calling for the genocide of India's 80% population.

Replying to Malviya's comment, Udaynidhi said that he never called for the genocide of people who follow 'sanatana dharma'. He said that its principles divide people in the name of caste and religion. The DMK leader added that uprooting 'sanatana dharma' is upholding humanity and human equality.
