‘Modi ka parivar’ campaign sparked by Lalu Yadav’s jibe, Rahul Gandhi handed ‘Chowkidar’ wave

The BJP has once again repurposed a pre-election taunt from an opposition leader. Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's critique of dynastic politics, former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav stated on March 3 that the BJP leader doesn't have a family of his own.

This remark was swiftly countered by senior BJP figures who added 'Modi ka Parivar' after their names on social media.

The campaign is reminiscent of the 2019 election season, when the BJP capitalised on a remark made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. While Modi often referred to himself as a 'Chowkidar', Rahul Gandhi retorted by labeling him a 'chor' (thief). This led to the 'Chowkidar chor hai' slogan.

Several BJP leaders, including the PM himself, prefixed 'Chowkidar' to their names on social media, igniting a viral trend.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath, union ministers Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari were among those added 'Modi ka parivar' to their social media handles on Monday in responside to Lalu's jibe.

Addressing a rally in Telangana's Adilabad on Monday, Modi attacked "dynasty parties" in the country, saying they may have different faces, but "jhoot and loot" was their common character.

The 140 crore people of the country are his family, he said.
