Most non-BJP CMs managing Home departments skip meeting chaired by Union HM Amit Shah: reports

In a fresh example of the acrimony in India's federal polity, many non-BJP Chief Ministers did not attend a programme organised by the Union government.

Most non-BJP CMs who hold the charge of their Home Departments skipped the 'Chintan Shivir' of home ministers of all states organised by the Modi government in Haryana's Surajkund on 27 October 2022.

Non-BJP chief ministers who skipped the meeting reportedly included Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal, Nitish Kumar of Bihar, Naveen Patnaik of Odisha, and M K Stalin of Tamil Nadu.

Only two non-BJP CMs - Punjab's Bhagwant Mann and Kerala's Pinarayi Vijayan - attended the conference chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The rest of the non-BJP-ruled states were either represented by a cabinet minister or a minister of state holding charge of the Home department.

The 'Chintan Shivir' was organised to discuss a host of internal security issues including cybercrimes, women's security issues and coastal security.
