PM Modi security breach: Centre says 'international shame', SC asks for travel records to be saved

The Supreme Court on Friday heard the plea seeking a probe into the alleged security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Punjab visit on Wednesday.

The top court has directed the Registrar General of Punjab and Haryana High Court to secure and preserve the PM's travel records.

Earlier during the hearing the Centre told the Supreme Court that a lapse in the PM's security "is the rarest of the rare case and has brought international shame".

Both Punjab and central governments have constituted high-level committees to probe the alleged security breach.

The Punjab government lawyer told the court that the state government "cannot be thrown under the carpet".

The Punjab government raised apprehension that the central committee will throw the fault in the Punjab police. "We had given certain advice to the SPG they didn't follow it," the state government lawyer maintained.

The Supreme Court will continue hearing the case on Monday.

The plea, filed by the NGO Lawyers Voice, has sought action against those responsible for the security lapse and appropriate directions to the Punjab government to prevent the recurrence of such an incident in the future.

On Wednesday, PM Modi's cavalcade was stuck on a flyover in Punjab for nearly 20 minutes due to farmers blocking the flyover.
