Dramatic scenes were witnessed near the Parliament as some legislators clashed with personnel of the Delhi police. The incident reportedly occurred when MPs belonging to the Congress-led UDF alliance in Kerala were staging a protest at Delhi's Vijay Chowk.

The demonstration was against the proposed SilverLine project in Kerala, being championed by the Left government in the state. Delhi Police denied that their personnel manhandled the protesting legislators. Delhi Police reportedly claimed that staff at barricades tried to stop the group from moving towards the Parliament. The group was stopped as its members didn't furnish their identity documents, as per police.

The incident coincided with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
Vijayan's SilverLine project reportedly envisages trains running at 200km/h between Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala's south, and Kasaragod in the state's northern end. The Rs 63,940 crore project is facing criticism from Opposition parties who claim that it will ensnare the state in debt.
