'Pray Congress can save 40 seats': PM Modi attacks Congress in Rajya Sabha

In his last speech in Rajya Sabha before the the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a strong attack against the Congress.
Referring to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks that Congress won’t be able to win even 40 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, Modi said that he prays that the party can ‘save at least 40 seats’

“The challenge has come from West Bengal... that the Congress will not be able to cross 40 (seats),” Modi said while recalling Banerjee’s jibe from last week. “I pray that they can save at least 40 seats,” Modi said in the Rajya Sabha on February 7 as BJP MPs thumped their tables.

The Prime Minister addressed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday as the chamber took up the Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu's address to Parliament.

Modi’s speech comes amid strained relations between the Congress and the TMC after Mamata Banerjee announced that she would contest the Lok Sabha polls alone in West Bengal. She has, however, said that TMC will remain a part of the INDIA bloc on a national level.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi earlier clarified the INDIA bloc remains intact so far. “Neither Mamataji nor Congress has come out of the alliance... Mamataji is saying she is in the alliance,” he said.
