Samajwadi Party workers face police cases for guarding EVM's during the election

Samajwadi Party workers who had guarded the electronic voting machines before the counting of votes in Uttar Pradesh are being booked by the police.

Pertinently, a controversy had erupted just two days before the counting of votes on March 10 after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that Electronic Voting Machines were being stolen from the counting centre in Varanasi. Following the incident, the SP chief had urged party workers to keep an eye on EVMs.

NDTV reported that in eastern UP's Basti district, 7 different cases have been filed against 100 Samajwadi Party workers for checking vehicles of government officials in an unauthorised manner.

Those booked by the police have also been accused of manhandling government officials.

In central UP's Hardoi, 100 SP workers have been booked on March 11 by the police for similar reasons, and two of the accused who were named in FIRs have been arrested.
