Security has been heightened in sensitive areas of southeast Delhi, including Jamia Nagar and prominent educational institutions like Jamia Millia Islamia, following the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Parliament.

Authorities are taking precautionary measures to ensure that law and order is maintained and to prevent any potential disruption by anti-social elements, a senior official said on Friday.

The Delhi Police, in coordination with paramilitary forces, has ramped up security arrangements in multiple areas deemed vulnerable, particularly in localities with a history of protests.

"To maintain law and order at multiple sensitive locations, we have intensified night patrolling, and additional deployment will be arranged as needed," a senior police officer stated.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which has been a subject of intense debate, was passed in Parliament in the early hours of Friday. The legislation secured approval in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha amid strong discussions between the government and the opposition.

The amendment is aimed at streamlining the administration of waqf properties and addressing concerns related to their management and disputes.

In light of the bill’s passage, authorities are taking preemptive steps to avoid any untoward incidents. Police forces remain on high alert, especially in areas where previous demonstrations over similar issues have taken place.
