5-year-old boy drowns after family dips him in Ganga to 'cure cancer'

A 5-year-old boy died after his family dipped him in the waters of Ganga in Haridwar believing it would cure his cancer.

According to the police, the boy was undergoing treatment for blood cancer in Delhi and his family had taken him to Haridwar as last hope.

NDTV reported that a video of the incident shows the boys' parents praying while another woman, believed to be his aunt, pushed him underwater.

A few bystanders asked the family to stop after realising that the 5-year-old had been in the water for too long. When the family refused, they forcefully pulled him out. The boy was immediately taken to the hospital but he was declared dead.
