Supreme Court reaches max strength as Modi govt clears elevation of 2 judges from High Courts

India's Supreme Court reached its full strength on 10 February 2023 after the Narendra Modi government cleared the elevation of 2 more High Court judges to the top court.

With the appointment of Justices Rajesh Bindal and Aravind Kumar after 5 appointments a week ago, the Supreme Court reached its full strength of 34 judges.

The Supreme Court collegium recommended the names of the two new judges on 31 January 2023.

"As per the provisions under the Constitution of India, the Hon’ble President of India has appointed the following Chief Justices of High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court. My best to them: Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, Allahabad HC and Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice, Gujarat HC," Law Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted.
