Taliban sending weapons to J&K: Indian Army chief Gen MM Naravane highlights Afghanistan challenge

India's Army chief made a startling revelation about the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at this year's edition of the Raisina Dialogue, General MM Naravane said, "There is definitely an increase in the number of weapons and other equipment, specially night-vision devices, that we're capturing or unearthing, which definitely have come from Afghanistan."

General MM Naravane's statement came amid increasing worry over Taliban rule in Afghanistan being dangerous for India. Recently, two terrorists who apparently spoke Pashto were killed in Sunjwan. This suggested that they were either from Afghanistan, or Pakistani areas bordering Afghanistan.

Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in 2021 had sparked worry in India that Taliban fighters may be diverted to Kashmir by their patron Pakistan. While General Naravane said that Afghan fighters are not seen in Jammu and Kashmir, there's a "movement in that direction", and it's a major cause of concern.

The Raisina Dialogue is organised by the Observer Research Foundation and the Indian government.
