'Techies are calm because we will always have kaam': comedian's hilarious take on layoffs

As companies across the tech industry continue to lay off employees amid a global recession threat, a comedian known as Shraddha has shared her take on the layoffs which have seen giants like Microsoft, Meta, and Google let go of employees.

The video has received widespread appreciation including from RPG chairman Harsh Goenka and actor Roshan Abbas.

In the video, Shraddha plays a techie who has been recently laid off, when asked what she thinks about her current situation, says, 'I'm feeling very bad. I'm feeling very bad for the HR.' They had to go from diversity and inclusion to adversity and expulsion, quips Shraddha.

Shraddha's entire set is sarcasm galore. She continues, 'And after all those employee engagement activities. Forget happy, they couldn't even keep employees.'

Not holding back, Shraddha further adds, 'This company gave away long service awards, people who have given 20-25 years of excellence for the company's continued success. A week later, they did not have access, to the company's network.'

Taking a shot at the amount of company merchandise given to employees, Shraddha says, 'Other than my government ID proofs, the company's name is everywhere. T-shirt, bag, water bottle, pen, notebook, cap, coffee, mug, mask, weekends, everywhere.'

She added, 'Next job bluntly say no to any company merchandise. Only package, no baggage.'

As Shraddha is asked why she doesn't seem worried about her career and appears so calm, she retorts, 'Because I am a techie and techies are calm because we know we will always have kaam. Kaam as in work.'

Taking another dig at the large number of layoffs, Shraddha says, 'Artificial intelligence can never overtake human paranoia and human curiosity. Only humans can do what no human has never done before. Have 24,000 people been laid off in a year before?'

Multiple reports state that in the first 15 days of January this year, over 24,000 individuals were let go by their employers, mainly in the tech industry.

Shraddha's 4-minute long video, originally posted on YouTube has garnered over 420,000 views in 24 hours. On different social media, the video has received more than 7 lakh views on Instagram while on Twitter, it has been viewed 183,000 times.

All over the internet, Shraddha has been praised for her ability to bring humour in a serious situation like a layoff. Many even related to Shraddha, and commented about their own story of being laid off, while complimenting her 'clever and witty' video which was still 'relatable to the common man'.
