UP shia leader leaves Islam, becomes Hindu, Yati Narsinhanand conducts ritual

UP Shia Waqf Board chief Wasim Rizvi is now Jitendra Narayan Singh Tyagi.

The controversial personality, who remains in news for his anti-Islam views, has now officially left Islam and converted to Hinduism.

Wasim Rizvi embraced the Hindu religion at the Dasna temple in Ghaziabad, which is run by controversial Yati Narsinhanand Giri, who has repeatedly courted controversy over his anti-Muslim and anti-women comments.

Giri on Monday presided over Rizvi's conversion ceremony.

Wasim Rizvi has long been a controversial figure.

He had recently expressed his desire to not be buried after death. He, instead said that he should be cremated according to Hindu customs. He had also expressed his wish that Yati Narsinhanand Giri should light his pyre.

Wasim Rizvi was also in the headlines for filing a petition to remove some verses of the Quran. He had filed a petition in the Supreme Court calling 26 verses of the Quran that 'promote terrorism'. However, rejecting this petition, the Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Rizvi.
