Uttarakhand: 'Dharam Sansad' denied permission in Roorkee, heavy security deployed

The Uttarakhand police has denied permission to a Hindu religious group for holding a religious conclave or 'dharam sansad' in Roorkee on Wednesday.

It also imposed preventive measures like prohibitory orders that ban gathering of 5 or more people in and around Roorkee. Deployment of police personnel has also been increased.

According to a report by NDTV, around 200 constables and head constables have been deputed in the area. More than 100 Inspectors and Sub Inspectors are also there along with five companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary.

The move came after the Supreme Court on Tuesday pulled up the state government for not taking strong action to prevent hate speeches at religious gatherings.

The court told the Uttarakhand govt that along with investigating hate speeches made at a earlier a 'dharam sansad' in Haridwar, it also has to work on stopping such events.
