Six passengers and the pilot had a close shave after a helicopter went into a tailspin while trying to make an emergency landing near the Kedarnath helipad.
According to reports, the copter had developed a technical glitch in its rear motor, forcing it to make an emergency landing, approximately 100 metres from the helipad.
According to officials, a hydraulic failure issue caused the helicopter to spin uncontrollably.
Rudraprayag District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar said the helicopter took off from the Sirsi helipad for Kedarnath early on Friday, reports PTI news agenncy.
It developed a technical snag in its rear motor, prompting the pilot to make an emergency landing a few metres from the helipad in Kedarnath, he said citing preliminary reports.
The pilot kept his cool and took a quick decision, averting a major mishap, Gaharwar said.
Everyone is safe and the pilgrims have even returned after having "darshan" at the temple, he added.
The incident occurred around 7 am and further investigations are underway, Gaharwar said

In a bizarre incident, a police jeep reportedly entered a ward of AIIMS Rishikesh to arrest a nursing officer accused of sexual harassment.
A video of the shocking incident has gone viral. It showed the police jeep driving through a crowded room filled with patients and hospital staff.
Security personnel present at the hospital can be seen pushing the beds and stretchers out of the vehicle's way.
The nursing officer, Satish Kumar, was arrested. He is accused of molesting a junior resident doctor on duty in the trauma surgery unit.
A day later, the resident doctors gathered outside the office of the Dean (Academics) and raised slogans.
They demanded the nursing officer's immediate termination of service and said that mere suspension was not enough for the offence he had committed, Medical Superintendent Sanjiv Kumar Mittal said.
They also demanded the suspension of assistant nursing superintendent ANS Sinoj who had put the nursing officer on duty, Mittal added.

As per a senior cop, they used an instant messaging app to help solve the question paper. Photographs of the question paper shot with a mobile phone were provided to the doctors through the app and they provided the answers.

Two doctors of AIIMS, Rishikesh were among five people arrested for allegedly helping candidates, appearing for the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test for MDs, cheat in lieu of money, police said on Tuesday.
Those arrested include Dr Ajit Singh (44) from Jind in Haryana, Dr Vaibhav Kashyap (23) from Patiala in Punjab, Aman Siwach (24) from Rohtak in Haryana, Vipul Gaura (31) and Jayant (22), both of whom hail from Hisar in Haryana, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh said.
They were arrested from a car near Barrage Road in Rishikesh late on Sunday evening, he said.
They are charged with helping three candidates at an exam centre in Kangra in Himachal Pradesh solve the question paper by using an instant messaging app, the SSP said.
Photographs of the question paper shot with a mobile phone were provided to the doctors through the app and they provided the answers, he said. The accused had struck a deal of Rs 50 lakh with the candidates for helping them cheat in the exam. They had already received Rs 25 lakh from the candidates and the rest of the amount was to be paid to them after the publication of the exam results, the SSP said.
The two doctors were promised Rs 2 lakh each for solving the question paper. Three tablets, three mobile phones, two medical books and the car used by the accused have been seized after their arrest, Singh said.
The exam was held by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Sunday.&nbsp;

Coming down hard on the Uttarakhand government, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday it was at pains to say that the state's approach in controlling forest fires was "lackadaisical".
A bench headed by Justice B R Gavai directed the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand to be present personally before it on May 17.
The bench, also comprising Justices SVN Bhatti and Sandeep Mehta, observed that though multiple action plans are prepared, no steps are taken for their implementation.
The apex court also flagged the issue of huge vacancy in the forest department of the state and said the issue needs to be addressed.
The top court was hearing a plea on raging forest fires in Uttarakhand.&nbsp;

The doors of the Badrinath temple in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand opened for devotees on Sunday after remaining closed during the winter season.
With the opening of the shrine, the Chardham Yatra to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri has started. The doors of the Badrinath temple were opened after six months amid the chanting of vedic mantras, a pooja and beats of dhols and nagadas, authorities said.
Scores of devotees had gathered on the premises of the temple, which was decked up with 15 quintals of flowers, to witness the ceremony despite rain. The doors opened at 6 am after two hours of rituals.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami greeted the people on the occasion. Temple chief priest Rawal Ishwar Prasad Namboodiri, members of the Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee, including its chairperson Ajendra Ajay, and Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, among others were present. The pooja to open the doors was performed by Namboodiri in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
The doors of the Kedarnath, Yamyunotri and the Gangotri temples opened for devotees on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on Friday.
Till 4 pm on Saturday, 7,37,885 people had registered online for a darshan at Badrinath, according to official data. Last year, 18,39,591 people had visited the shrine.

The firefighting operation in Uttarakhand's forests continued in full swing as the Indian Air Force was roped in to douse the flames in several areas.&nbsp; The state reported eight fresh forest fires since Saturday gutting 11.75 hectares, compared to the 23 such incidents damaging 34.175 hectares from Friday evening to Saturday evening, the forest department said in its daily bulletin.&nbsp; The Uttarakhand government has cancelled the leaves of forest department officers and employees to tackle the situation. &nbsp;
Since November 1, 2023, Uttarakhand recorded 606 forest fires in which 735.815 hectares of forest land were gutted, the bulletin said.&nbsp;
No major fire broke out in the forests over the past 24 hours, Kumaon's Chief Conservator of Forest Prasanna Kumar Patro told PTI news agency.
In the Kumaon region, fires are raging at two to three places in the Nainital district and at one place each in Champawat, Almora, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar, Patro said

The forest blaze in Nainital and adjoining areas is gradually being brought under control after the deployment of the IAF helicopter on Saturday morning, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said after reviewing the situation in the Kumaon region on Saturday night.&nbsp; Patro said efforts are on to extinguish the flames at other places and they will be brought under control soon.
He attributed the recent spike in forest fire incidents in Kumaon to increased dryness due to heat wave in the lower areas of Champawat and Nainital districts of Uttarakhand bordering Nepal.
Meanwhile, efforts were stepped up to extinguish ongoing forest fires and prevent fresh incidents in the worst-affected areas of Nainital, Haldwani and Ramnagar forest divisions, forest officials said.
The flames have already been doused in many areas, including Marora and Khanana civil areas in Maniknath range of the Narendranagar forest division, they said.
Apart from the IAF helicopter and Army personnel, Prantiya Rakshak Dal volunteers and homeguard personnel have also been roped in to help in the firefighting operations, Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat said.
Additional government vehicles, two each for the three forest divisions, have been provided to rush firefighting teams to the affected areas, he added.
Help from locals with the involvement of forest panchayat officials is also being taken as they are the first responders to forest fires, Rawat said.&nbsp;
Forest department personnel are going from village to village in the hills to raise awareness about forest fires, Garhwal DFO Anirudh Swapnil told reporters in Pauri.&nbsp;
Loudspeakers are being used to spread the messages. People are being asked to report any forest blaze immediately to the authorities and not to burn garbage in the open or carelessly throw burning cigarette butts or bidis in the forest areas, Swapnil said.&nbsp;
People are also being asked to report to the authorities if they catch someone setting a fire in the forests, he said, adding that any person reporting such a violation will be rewarded by the forest department.&nbsp; Legal action under the Forest Act 1927 will be taken against anyone caught setting fire to the jungles, he added.&nbsp;
Burning forests in order to obtain fresh grass for their cattle is a widely prevalent practice in the hills of Uttarakhand.&nbsp; The leaves of forest department officials have been cancelled until the fire situation is completely brought under control
Leave applications of forest department personnel will be considered only in case of medical emergencies, Dhami said.&nbsp;
According to the Indian Air Force, a Mi-17 V5 helicopter has been deployed in Nainital and surrounding areas to douse the flames. It collects water from the Bhimtal lake in a Bambi bucket, which has a capacity of 5,000 litres, and pours it over the burning forests.&nbsp; &nbsp; (With PTI inputs)

A 28-year-old woman, Shreya Jain, from Delhi collapsed and died while dancing at the 'mehndi' ceremony ahead of her wedding in Nainital.
According to Times of India report, the family had planned a destination wedding and booked a luxurious resort in Naukuchiatal.
However, the festivities soon turned into a tragedy. Shreya was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her last rites were held at Kathgodam.
A police official said that she likely died due to cardiopulmonary complications.
Shreya's father said that her daughter had completed her MBA after BTech while the groom works in an IT company.

In a significant move that underscores the cultural heritage and sporting aspirations of Uttarakhand, the 38th National Games mascot unveiling ceremony was held at Maharana Pratap Sports College, Raipur, Dehradun, on Sunday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami led the event, marked by the addition of traditional Indian sports, Yoga and Malkhambh, into the National Games lineup&mdash;an initiative approved by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
The mascot, named Mouli and inspired by Uttarakhand&rsquo;s state bird, the Monal, was revealed alongside the official logo, jersey, torch, anthem, and the tagline "Sankalp Se Shikhar Tak" (From Resolution to Zenith). Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that the mascot embodies the state's rich biodiversity and cultural depth, while the logo projects its dynamic identity.
Describing the event as a historic moment for the state, Chief Minister Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the opportunity to host the games. He noted that Uttarakhand's sporting infrastructure has seen a significant boost, with around Rs 500 crore allocated for new facilities. This investment has led to the construction of sports grounds, upgraded stadiums, modern swimming pools, water sports infrastructure, and specialized facilities like cycling tracks and shooting ranges. Dhami added that small sports stadiums are also being built in hilly areas to encourage local talent.

"Our resolve must be firm and unwavering to achieve our goals," Dhami said, reiterating the state&rsquo;s preparedness for the National Games. An avalanche struck Gandhi Sarovar in Uttarakhand's Kedarnath around 5 am on Sunday. A police official said that occurred on a hill about 4 km away from the Kedarnath temple as a result of the cracking of snow due to sunlight.&nbsp;
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rudraprayag, Dr Vishakha Ashok Bhadane told ANI, "There was an avalanche from above Gandhi Sarovar in Kedarnath at around 5 am today. But there has been no loss of life or property."

Heavy rain lashed Haridwar on Saturday afternoon and several cars washed away after flooding in the Sukhi river here.
Rainwater gushed into homes and left major roads in the pilgrimage town waterlogged.
As the rainfed Sukhi river is generally dry, people habitually park their cars on the dry riverbed.
As the river got flooded all of a sudden, the cars were swept away in the swirling waters. The river joins the mainstream of the Ganga a short distance away.
People gathered on the bridges over the Ganga near Har ki Pauri to capture the visuals of the floating cars on mobile cameras.

At least 14 people were killed and a dozen injured after a tempo taveller they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge into Alaknanda river on Badrinath national highway in Uttarakhand on the 15th of June.
The vehicle carrying 26 people, most of them from Delhi, rolled 500 metres down the gorge, officials told PTI news agency.
The tourists were on the way to Chopta when the accident happened around 11 am near Raitoli village, they added.
Ten people died on the spot while two others succumbed later during treatment in hospital, according to the Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Rescue and relief personnel had to navigate extremely adverse terrain to reach the badly mangled vehicle.
During the accident, a woman was flung from the vehicle and she was rescued from the bushes around 80 metres off the road, the SDRF said.
Garhwal Inspector General of Police KS Nagnyal said the vehicle was carrying the tourists to Chopta. He said 26 people were in the vehicle and most of them were residents of Delhi.
On Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's instructions, seven persons seriously injured in the accident were taken to AIIMS, Rishikesh through heli-ambulance, while six others are being treated at Rudraprayag district hospital, he said.
The chief minister has directed the district magistrate to investigate the incident, officials said.
CM Dhami later reached AIIMS, Rishikesh and enquired about the condition of the injured and urged doctors to provide necessary treatment to them.
The families of the injured have been contacted and they were assured of all possible help from the state government, the CM said. Officials have also been directed to ensure effective control of such accidents in the state, he said.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and other leaders expressed grief over the loss of life.
Terming the accident heartbreaking, the Prime Minister's Office posted on X, "My deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this. Along with this, I wish all the injured a speedy recovery." Modi also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to those injured in the accident, the PMO posted.
President Murmu condoled the loss of lives in the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said,"The local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue work and all possible help is being provided to the injured." In a post on X, Vice President Dhankhar said he was pained to hear about the loss of lives in the accident.&nbsp;
