Eight persons, including four farmers, were killed in the violence that broke out in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri district on Sunday, Additional Superintendent of Police, Arun Kumar Singh said.

UP CM Adityanath said he is 'saddened' by the violence and promised to take 'strict action'

Farmers were protesting against the Centre's three farm bills Lakhimpur Kheri ahead of an event in MoS Ajay Mishra's paternal village. UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya was to be the chief guest at the event

Farmers were holding protests over Maurya and Mishra's visit.

Farmers unions have alleged two of the protesters were run over by a vehicle in the convoy of the Union minister.

The angry farmers burned down three cars, including Ashish Mishra's. As per the latest reports, the situation turned tense as the farmers continued to protest in the region. Heavy police force has been deployed

Condemning the attack on protesting farmers, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha demanded strict action against Ajay Misra’s son, Ashish Mishra, and others involved in the incident. The farmers' union also demanded dismissal of Ajay Misra from the post

Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait said that the incident has 'once again exposed the cruel and undemocratic face of the government'

Farmers unions have called upon all farmers' organisations across India to protest at District Magistrates' offices in all districts between 12 and 1 pm on Monday
