What are strawberry legs? Here's how to get rid of them

What are strawberry legs? Here's how to get rid of them

Have you ever noticed little dark spots on your legs after waxing or shaving? Chances are you have strawberry legs. But what exactly is it and how do you treat it? Let's find out!

What are strawberry legs?

Strawberry legs are hyperpigmented dots that appear at the site of a hair follicle. While they are commonly seen after shaving, they can also be caused by clogged pores or a build-up of dead skin cells.

How do you treat strawberry legs?

Treating strawberry legs is quite cost-effective. Regularly exfoliating the skin is one of the best treatments. Fresh yogurt along with oatmeal, honey and ground coffee act as a gentle yet effective exfoliator. Keeping the skin moisturised and soft will also help you get rid of teensy skin dots.

Dermatologists also recommend products containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid, if the condition persists.

How do you prevent strawberry legs from returning?

  • If you're prone to strawberry legs, try not to shave and swap to other methods of hair removal.
  • If you prefer shaving, avoid using the old or dull razor as it can quickly result in strawberry legs. Don't forget to use a moisturising shaving cream before using a razor as it might lessen the risk of skin rashes.
  • Hot wax and sugar wax can also help you get rid of strawberry legs as it opens the pores and removes hair from the roots.
