From ditching filters to expressing their needs, 40% women approve of the changing beauty standards

Women are breaking stereotypes and re-writing the rules of dating. A survey by dating app Quack Quack shows women are taking charge in initiating conversations.

From ditching filters to expressing their needs, 40% women approve of the changing beauty standards

Ahead of International Women's Day, dating app QuackQuack, ran a poll among Indian women to find out how modern women are breaking stereotypes every day. Over 38% of women expressed their optimism about the changing beauty standards. The poll offers valuable insight into everything that influences romantic connections today as opposed to a few years back. The participants ranged between 18 and 40 with the majority of them being working professionals and students.

From ditching filters to expressing their needs, women are rewriting the rules

QuackQuack's founder and CEO, Ravi Mittal, commented, "We have seen a 24% surge in female users, and it signals how more women are confident to use dating apps to find a partner. Among women, we have seen a constant trend of evolution of dating patterns. Meaning- women are consistently upgrading the way they pick a partner or the way they present themselves. From ditching filters to expressing their needs openly, women are rewriting the rules of dating and breaking every stereotype that was once in place to bring them down."

Redefining Beauty Standards

The study findings suggest a departure from conventional beauty ideals towards a more inclusive and realistic representation of beauty. 48% of women are more inclined towards uploading unedited pictures for their dating profile to attract partners who love them for their authentic selves. Women also mentioned how redefining beauty standards makes life easier for men as well. The once coveted "tall, dark, and handsome" is now obsolete, with women focusing on kindness, education, and general social awareness among men.

Promoting Self-Expression

With the 2024 dating scene undividedly focused on mental health and holistic well-being, self-expression among women has seen a significant rise. 43% of women between 20 and 35 disclosed feeling more empowered to express themselves authentically, regardless of societal expectations. One notable change in this trend is how women now feel more comfortable articulating their expectations from potential partners, as opposed to earlier, when women expressing their needs were labeled as selfish and greedy. In the current dating climate, with more and more women feeling confident to claim what they deserve and not settle for anything less, there's a growing recognition that communicating one's desires and expectations is essential for building healthy and fulfilling relationships.

Contrary to the stereotype of women being passive or indecisive, Tier 1 and 2 women are embracing assertiveness in expressing their desires and boundaries. These expectations can extend beyond just emotional compatibility. Women are increasingly vocal about their preferences for partners who possess certain material and tangible attributes, such as a stable job, good educational qualifications, and a reasonable salary. The stigma surrounding women seeking partners with strong financial stability is gradually disappearing, with a steady decline in societal judgment.

Rejecting Gender Norms

Stereotypical gender roles often dictate that men should make the first move or women should not text first or too soon unless they want to seem desperate. But, the data collected from the study show that 35% of women from Tier 1 and 2 cities are starting to take control of their dating narrative. Women of QuackQuack are seizing control of their romantic destinies by initiating conversations with matches. Women are no longer confined to narrow stereotypes of femininity either. Whether it's discussing sports, technology, or traditionally male-dominated fields, women disclosed asserting their right to pursue their passions without conforming to outdated gender norms. More than 30% of employed women over 30 are seen advocating equitable financial arrangements by splitting expenses or taking turns treating their dates.
