CWG 2022 Day 10 HIGHLIGHTS:  Sharath-Sreeja wins Gold in Mixed TT; India women's cricket team settle for a Silver

Sagar SAGAR (India) - Delicious ORIE (England) Men’s Over 92kg (Super Heavyweight) -- Gold medal match

1st round

Sagar is gauging his opponent at the start of the bout. The English boxer is looking dominant in the first round. Sagar tries to end the first round on a high but it seems the Indian boxer trails after the first round. 

But the judges think different, Sagar leads 5-0 after the first round

2nd ROUND

Sagar seems to be suffering in the second round. He is coming in clinch position on most occasions. We are waiting for the judges' decision and in the second round, the English boxer gets 10 points from all the judges while Sagar gets 9 each from 5 referees.

3rd ROUND

Sagar's hooks and punches are not landing on target in the final round. Meanwhile, English boxer looks very confident with his attacking skills. Can Sagar lift his game in the final minutes of the game?

He is getting medical assistance for a cut. 

Sagar loses the gold medal match by unanimous decision. He settles for a Silver.

JOLLY Treesa / PULLELA Gayatri Gopichand (India) - CHEN Hsuan-Yu Wendy / SOMERVILLE Gronya (India)

The Indian women's pair of Treesa and Gayatri have shed the horrors of their semi-final match. They defeated the Australian pair to win the Bronze in the Women's Doubles event.

CHOONG Javen / LYNE Karen (Malaysia) - ACHANTA Sharath Kamal / AKULA Sreeja (India)

The Indian mixed doubles pair of Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula showed mettle of steel in the final. After winning the first game, the Indian pair loses the second but won the next two to seal the Gold medal for India.

India need 11 runs off the 6 deliveries....

Yatsika Bhatia declines to take a single off the first ball and collects a single off the second ball. However, Meghna Singh sacrifices her wicket to give Yatsika the strike. 

Yatsika tries to play a reverse sweep off the 3rd ball but fails to make any connection, follows by a loud appeal and the umpire raises the finger.

Yatsika takes review and wicket hitting is umpire's call. 

AND YET AGAIN INDIAN WOMEN'S TEAM CHOKE IN THE FINAL OF A MAJOR TOURNAMENT.

Megan Schutt bowls the 18th over and Radha Yadav gets runout off the first ball. 

Deepti Sharma smashes the second ball straight down the ground for FOUR to give Indian chase the much-needed push. However, she gets dismissed the very next ball. 

Australia are sniffing a victory here. 

Meghna Singh comes at the crease and collects a single off the first ball she faced. 

Yastika collects a single off the last ball to keep the strike. 

India need 11 runs off the 6 deliveries.

India need 17 runs in 12 balls.

India sheds all the advantage they had during the 94-run stand between Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues.

But Indian women's team lose three wickets in the span of 9 balls, including the captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Thus giving Australia a chance to make a comeback.

IND Women need 28 runs in 18 balls  

Srikanth Nammalwar KIDAMBI (India) Vs Jia Heng TEH (Singapore)

Jia Heng Teh was struggling in the second game due to injury. Though he played the full game but failed to overcome Kidambi's challenge.

Meanwhile, Kidambi did not lose his concentration and won the Bronze medal.

Rodrigues throws her wicket away in search of big runs. That was a reckless shot from Jemimah given she already scored six runs off the first two deliveries. 

Megan Schutt breaks the 96-run stand for the 3rd wicket.

Pooja Vastrakar joins Harmanpreet Kaur in the middle.

India Women need 44 runs in 30 balls.

India Women need 50 runs in 36 balls.

Harmapreet Kaur is playing a captain's knock in the Gold medal match. He reaches the fifty-run mark in 36 balls.

IND Women need 64 runs in 42 balls.

After the two quick wickets up front, Captain Harmanpreet and Jemimah Rodrigues  put up a counter-attacking 71-run stand for the third wicket with Harmanpreet Kaur doing the bulk of the scoring. 

Srikanth Nammalwar KIDAMBI (India) Vs Jia Heng TEH (England)

Srikanth is all set to win the Bronze medal. He is leading the second game 17-12

Sathiyan GNANASEKARAN (India) - Liam PITCHFORD (England)

In the second semifinal in men's singles,  Sathiyan loses the first game but comes back brilliantly in the second.

However, he fails to continue that form in the next three games. He loses the semifinal match 5-11, 11-4, 8-11, 9-11, 9-11.

Srikanth Nammalwar KIDAMBI (India) - Jia Heng TEH (England)

Kidambi starts well in the men's singles match. He wins the first game 21-15.

The veteran pair of Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal ends their 2022 campaign with a Bronze medal as they defeated Donna and Cameron.

Chasing a 162-run target, India lose their first wicket in form of Smriti Mandhana.

Brown bowls the on-the-leg stump line and castles the Indian batter,  Mandhana walks too much across the stumps. 

In the next over, Shafali tries to go over the in-field but manages only a top edge. But gets Dropped. But the Indian batter fails to capitalise on it given she goes for another biggie and Tahila McGrath, who is Covid-19 positive, completes the catch. India in a deep trouble.   

India are one over behind in the stipulated time. Only three fielders will be outside the circle in the last over. 

Deepti Sharma bowls the last over and concedes only five runs in the over. 

Australia 161-8 after 20 Overs

Paul DRINKHALL (England) Vs Sharath Kamal ACHANTA (India)

Sharath Kamal brings his A game and seals the 6th game 11-8. He is through to the final and will play his Gold Medal match on Monday

Ashleigh Gardner comes out all guns blazing and scores a quick fire 25 off 15 balls before getting stumped. 

In the same over, Beth Mooney completes her half-century. 

India are getting crucial wickets in the death overs.

After losing the third game, Sharath Kamal makes a brilliant comeback in the fourth game and seals it 11-7. He needs to win only one game to book a place in the final.

Deepti Sharma provides India third breakthrough and sends Tahlia McGrath packing.

Paul DRINKHALL (England) Vs Sharath Kamal ACHANTA (India)

Shedding the disappointment of the Men's Doubles final, Sharath Kamal is displaying some great Table Tennis skills in his singles match. He is leading the best of seven games 2-1 against the English paddler.

Meg Lanning gets RUNOUT!!

It is a sad end of a 74-run stand between the Australian captain and Beth Mooney. 

Mooney drives the first ball of 10th over down the ground but finds Radha's fingertips and the ball rolls down to the non-striker's stumps. Unlucky dismissal for Lanning and a lucky break for India.

Australia 87-2 after 11 Overs

Australia make a slow start. Renuka Singh provides India with the first breakthrough in the 3rd over as she gets the wicket of Alyssa Healy.

In the final game, Sathiyan wins the first point for India and induces an error from Englishmen to win the second one as well. But Pitchford and Drinkhall three successive point to take the lead.

The tension is rising at the moment with every serve.

Neck-on-neck clash in the final game!!!

But Englishmen force the Indian pair to make mistakes and takes three consecutive points. 

The Indians are under immense pressure now as they are trailing by 4 points. Like the third game, Sathiyan is making too many unforced errors. Englishmen are on a brink of winning the Gold medal AND they have done it. 

India lose the final and 5th set 4-11.

Too many unforced errors from Sathiyan in the fourth game. But Sharath Kamal is producing his A game and India take 7-4 lead in the 4th game. 

After losing crucial points, the Indian pair hits back and won two back-to-back points to seal the 4th game 11-7. 

FINAL GAME WILL DECIDE, WHO WILL FINISH AT THE TOP OF PODIUM

With a good combination of backhand and forehand return, the English pair takes a big 7-2 lead in the third game. And the Indian pair just succumbed under the pressure and lose the third game without any fight 3-11.

The Indian pair makes a superb comeback and reduces the deficit to only one point, forcing the Englishmen to take a timeout in order to break the rhythm of Sharath & Sathiyan.

The English pair makes a positive start in the second game, taking a 5-1 lead up front.

First Round

Nikhat starts with an aggressive approach and lands good heavy punches on target. Carly is coming back after a defensive approach in the first 90 minutes. 

Nikhat is leading 5-0 after the first round. 

2nd round

Carly starts with an aggressive approach in the second round but Nikhat is handling her brilliantly. 

Carly is landing some good punches in the second round and coming to clinch position whenever Nikhat tries to take an aggressive route. 

With her balanced approach, Nikhat takes two points lead over the Northern Islander boxer after the second round.

THIRD ROUND

 The Northern Island boxer seems to be tired in the third round. Her punches and hocks are going wayward. Meanwhile, Nikhat is landing perfect punches on target. 

Nikhat is just 25 seconds from winning her maiden Gold Medal. 

AND SHE WINS INDIA'S THIRD GOLD IN BOXING. This is her maiden Gold in Commonwealth Games

It was a cakewalk for the Indian pair.

Chirag & Satwik stumble in the second game before locking the game 21-15 and storm into the final of men's doubles.

Chirag & Satwik are leading 11-7 at the mid-game break.

The Indians have the service at 16-19 but they fail to hold it and now the Malaysian pair is just one point away from the final spot. Jolly Treesa returns the smash, wide of the sideline, gifting the match point. 

Malaysia's  Koong Le Pearly and Thinaah Muralitharan will play the Gold Medal match on Monday. While Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will play the Bronze medal match later in the day.

At the mid-break in the first game, Indian pair is leading 11-4 against Malaysia.

The Malaysian pair is making a strong comeback in the second game and takes the lead after going into the mid-break behind.  Currently, the scoreline is 18-15 in favour of Malaysia.

The Indian pair makes a strong start and leading the first game at the moment.

The Indian pair is giving a stiff challenge to the Malaysian duo. But in the end, the Malaysian pair prevailed and won the first game 21-13

India finish fifth, Nigeria win!


Dutee Chand, Hima Das, Srabani Nanda and Jyothi Yarraji got the fifth place finish after clocking 43.81s. 

England win silver and Bronze goes to Jamaica. 

The World Ranked 42, Malaysia's Tze Yong defeated Srikanth Kidambi to enter the finals. 

Yong won 13-21, 21-19, 21-10. He will face India's Lakshya Sen in finals. 

Kidambi will now fight in the bronze medal match later today. 

Malaysia's Tze Yong makes it 1-1 after winning 2nd game 21-19. 

Srikanth Kidambi had won the first game 21-13.

In the 3rd game, Yong has a 6-3 lead over Kidambi. 

Sreeja Akula loses in the bronze medal match against Australia's Liu iwth a scoreline of 4-3.

Athletics, women's javelin final


Annu Rani wins the BRONZE medal for India with her 60.00m throw.

Kidambi wins the first game 21-13 with ease. 

In the 2nd game, the Indian shuttler is currently trailing by 10-7 against Malaysia's  Tze Yong.

Lakshya got the better of Singapore's Jia Heng Jason Teh 21-10, 18-21, 21-16 to march into the finals.

Akula would not allow the Bronze to slip from her hands, the Indian Paddler makes it a 2-2 against Australia's Yangzi Liu

Akula is trailing in the 5th game 5-6 (11-3, 6-11, 2-11, 11-7)

After 2 medals in Men's triple jump, Sandeep Kumar wins BRONZE in 10km race walk.

Navneet got a golden chance to double India's lead however she missed the shot.

India also won the penalty corner.  Gurjit took it, but New Zealand goalkeeper saves it with her leg
