CWG 2022 Day 7 HIGHLIGHTS: Murali Sreeshankar wins Silver in Men's long jump

With the Wrestling event starting on Day 8 of the Commonwealth Games 2022, India will be hoping to bag a few more medals in Birmingham. Wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Anshu Malik, Mohit Grewal and Deepak Punia will be in action from 3 pm IST onwards. Meanwhile, India's star shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth will be vying to register a place in the quarterfinals in women's and men's singles respectively.

India's Murali Sreeshankar makes history, becomes the country's first-ever male long jumper to win a medal at Commonwealth Games.

He wins Silver with a best jump of 8.08 metres in the final!

Sreeshankar's last attempt is deemed illegal. But he wins Silver in Men's long jump.

This will be India's second medal in track and field event.

Mhd Anees Yahiya takes a leap of 7.97m in his 6th and last attempt.

Murali Sreeshankar is at second place at the moment with one attempt in hand.

Rohit Tokas wins his quarterfinals match by an unanimous decision, confirms yet another medal for India.

Top Indian paddler Manika Batra cruises into Pre-QF of Women's Singles with 4-0 win in 1st round

India's Reeth Tennison advances to round of 16, beats England's Charlotte Bardsley 11, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10, 11-3.

Sreeja Akula advances into round of 16, beats Malaysia's Karen Lyne 12-10, 12-10, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8

Sreeja Akula starts superbly and wins the first two games. However, Malaysia's Karen Lyne comes back brilliantly in the third game, winning it 11-4.

Sreeja bossed the 4th game and wins it 11-8.

India's Reeth Tennison leads against England's Charlotte Bardsley 11-8, 10-12, 11-6.

She is leading two games to one.  

In the Mixed doubles event,  Sharath Kamal & Sreeja Akula advance to the next round.

They defeat Norther Ireland pair 11-7, 11-8 and 11-9.

The Indian pair of Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula don't have to work much in the second set as well, winning it 11-8.

Manika Batra and Sathiyan win the third game 11-1 and advance to the round of 16.

THIRD ROUND

Indian pugilist Sagar will certainly advance to the next round as Seychelles' Keddy Evans' erratic approach doesn't help his cause.

India's Sagar wins the quarterfinal with a unanimous decision. He confirms yet another medal for India in Boxing

India beat Wales 4-1 to win their last Pool B match.

SECOND ROUND

Seychelles' Keddy Evans starts the second bout again with an aggressive approach. But Sagar, who the first bout, again use his defensive technique.

Keddy Evans, though, lands some good punches this time. Sagar replies with a great punch, and referee has to stop the match for a bit. 

At the end of 2nd bout, Sagar maintains his lead of 4:1. 

Seychelles' Keddy Evans AGNES starts the first round with a combination of punches putting the Indian boxer on backfoot.

But Sagar unleashes his defensive approach and keeps his opponent at bay. 

Sagar wins the first bout by 4:1 decision. 

Wales reduce the deficit by one goal with a goal in the 56th minute.

India 4 | 1 in the 4th quarter.

Gurjant deflects a cross into Wales' goalpost and gives India four goals lead.

Dipika and Saurav make an easy work in their round of 16 match as they defeat Wales' WHITLOCK Emily and CREED Peter in straight sets.

India win 11-8, 11-4 and storms into the semis.

India continue to dominate the match in the third quarter as well. In this quarter India scored a goal as Harmanpreet Singh scored his third one.  

INDIA EARN PENALTY STROKE!!

Harmanpreet Singh scores a hat-trick as he converts the penalty stroke with ease. With a total of 9 goals in CWG 2022, this is Harmanpreet's second hat-trick.

India 3 | 0 Wales in the third quarter

The Indian veterans win the first game 11-8 against Wales' WHITLOCK Emily and CREED Peter.

India earn a penalty corner at the start of the third quarter but Wales deny Harmanpreet Singh of his hat-trick.

After a goalless first quarter, India come out all guns blazing in the second and scored two goals as Harmanpreet Singh converted two penalties into goals. 

In Mixed doubles, Joshna Chinappa and Harinder Sandhu have lost in straight games to their Australian opponents, Donna Lobban & Cameron Pilley. The Indians lost 8-11, 9-11.

In men's doubles, there was some good news.

Abhay Singh & Velavan Senthilkumar beat their opponents from the British Virgin Islands 11-3, 11-1. They are through to the Round of 16.

It's Harmanpreet again! A straightforward penalty corner goal once again. Within a couple of minutes, India have scored two goals from penalty corners. World-class drag flick from him, unstoppable it was!

This time Harmanpreet gets the Goal. India take the lead through a different penalty corner approach. But deservingly, India are 1-0 ahead with India's penalty corner specialist scoring his 7th goal of the Commonwealth Games.

India take a penalty corner and the dragflick seems to have hit the Wales' player foot. While the referee signals a penalty corner, Wales review. But the third umpire says he doesn't have enough conclusive evidence. So, India go again.

The Wales' hockey team put up a brilliant effort in the first quarter and don't allow the Indian team to take a lead.

Sreejesh makes a brilliant effort to save an on-target stroke from a Wales' striker.

8th minute | Penalty Corner

India fails to convert the first Penalty Corner as Jugraj's drag-flick hits goalkeeper stick and goes over the goal post.

THIRD ROUND

Jaismine keeps herself away from the Kiwi boxer in the third bout. The Indian boxer looks too much defensive and Garton landing combination of punches on target. 

Jaismine put herself in a difficult situation after the third bout. But the Indian pugilist prevails due to a superb show in the first two rounds.  

In split decision, India's Jaismine wins the bout with a split 3:2 decision.

SECOND ROUND

Jaismine starts the second bout with the stem as she did in the first one. But the Kiwi boxer takes an aggressive approach in the last minute of second bout. Though Indian boxer looks good in this round, but it won't come as a surprise if we witness some changes in referee decision.

FIRST ROUND

Jaismine uses her height to great advantage in the opening minutes of the first bout. 

The Indian boxer uses a combination of punches whenever the Kiwi Pugilist opens up her defensive guard. 

Jaismine wins the first round with a unanimous decision. She need to keep her hard work in the second bout as well.

Indian Pugilist Jaismine will be looking to assure India yet another medal in Boxing.

She will be competing against New Zealand's Troy Garton.

After a closely fought first game, the Indian pair of Sunayna and Anahat make easy work in the second game, winning it 11-4. The Indian duo sails into the Round of 16.

The Indian pair of Sunayna and Anahat come from behind to seal the first game 11-9. The Indian players are trailing by two points at one point in time but the duo put up an exemplary performance to win the game set (11-9)

The Indian pair of Sunayna and Anahat fighting is hard to win the first set. The Indian squash pair is currently trailing in first set.

In Squash Women's Doubles, the Indian pair of Sunayna and Anahat will in action shortly.

The Indian pair will be competing in the Round of 32 against Sri Lankan pair of KURUPPU Yeheni  and SINALY Chanithma

The English shuttlers take an aggressive approach and win two points on trot. But Indians are not lagging behind as they reduce the two points deficits to one.

Though, they give two points lead again, India trailing 15-17. After a brief break, India wins the service back but fails to win successive points. 

India lose their round of 32 match after Sumeeth makes successive errors in the dying minutes of the second game. 

A closely fought match but the Indian pair made too many unforced errors by the end of each game.     

India lose the match 18-21, 16-21 to England's Callum Hemming and Jessica Pugh.

The Indian pair makes a stupendous comeback and currently the score is level at 14-14.

Indian pair is giving stiff challenge to English shutter. But they are still trailing in the second game. 

Amit Panghal starts with an intact defense and unleashes a combination of punches suddenly. The Scottish boxer gets a counting from the referee. 

Panghal gets a warning from the referee for engaging his opponent. He was swaying too much. 

It is expected that the Indian boxer will sail into the next round easily.

The Scottish boxer starts with an aggressive approach and Amit keeps his defensive technique intact. 

By the end of the bout, both the boxers use a defensive approach with Amit landing some punches on target. 

Amit is leading 4:1 in the second bout.

After using his defensive technique at the start, Amit Panghal makes full use of his experience and hits some good punches on target at the end of the first bout. 

Panghal leads his quarterfinal with 4:1 decision.

In the first bout, Amit Panghal is using the defensive technique. With a combination of punches Panghal trying to take the first advantage.

The Indian pair, Sumeet and Ashwini, loses the first game against the English pair Callum Hemming & PUGH Jessica Pugh. The English shuttlers win the first game 21-18

It was a closely fought game but the Indian pair failed to win crucial points.

A walk in the park for Srikanth in the match as he wins in straight games 21-9, 21-9. 

He's through to the Round of 16 in Men's Singles.

India's Kidambi Srikanth is up against Uganda's Daniel Wanagaliya in Men's Singles Round of 32.

The Indian star will be hoping to put his loss in the mixed team event final behind him.

Reeth Tennison & Sanil Shetty are out in the Round of 64!

They managed to save three match points in the third game but they can only save one this time. 

Go down fighting in the final game.

They lose 6-11, 10-12, 13-11, 11-8, 8-11

India's Sarita Singh is out! She finishes outside the top 12 spot with a final throw of 56.62m

Manju Bala finishes 11th and is through to the final but with her performance in the qualification round, a medal certainly looks like a distant dream.

Reeth & Sanil have levelled it 2-2!

The duo was leading 3-0 before losing 6 points in a row but they made a fantastic comeback into the game, winning it 11-8.

Time for the decider!

Both Manju Bala & Sarita Singh foul with their second throws. 

The Indians currently 11th and 13th respectively. 

Only the top 12 go through to the finals.

India's PV Sindhu is currently cruising against Maldives' Fathimath Nabaaha. 

Sindhu takes the first game 21-4. Looking like an easy victory for the ace shuttler.

A poor start for the mixed doubles pair of Reeth Tennison & Sanil Shetty. They have lost the opening two games against their Malaysian opponents 6-11, 10-12.


Finally, they pull one back! They win the 3rd game 13-11 to stay in the match.

India's Hima Das finishes 1st in her heat!

With a time of 23.42 seconds, she has qualified for the semi-finals with ease.

Job done for the day!

She'll come for her semi-final race tomorrow. 

The first throw from Sarita Singh isn't good enough. She manages just 57.48 metres.

Manju Bala's first throw is better than her Indian colleague. She gets 59.68m with her first attempt

The singles/doubles event in Badminton, TT & Squash will also take place today. 

PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Sharath Kamal, Manika Batra, G Sathiyan, Dipika Pallikal, Saurav Ghosal and many others will be in action today.
