BCCI to bring back women's red-ball domestic events: report

After a successful women's international red-ball season at home, the BCCI is mulling reviving the longer format at the domestic level.

And if things go as per plan, a women's domestic red-ball tournament could begin soon after the conclusion of the Women's Premier League in March 2024.

On January 14, the Indian Express reported quoting a BCCI official, 'It will be a three-day tournament to start with. Due to the constraint of time we are thinking of starting with zonal format initially. The tournament will be concluded in the month of March-April.'

The official went on to add that since there is no red-ball cricket for the women's team at present, the Indian board felt it is time to start days cricket as well as domestic cricket for them.

After beginning with the zonal format, the report further stated that the BCCI might consider having a women's tournament similar to the men's Ranji Trophy.

India has not had a women's domestic red-ball tournament since 2018.
