An attempt was made to ensure I don't get the coaching job in 2017: Ravi Shastri

Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri in an interview with the Times of India revealed that there was a deliberate attempt to ensure that he did not get the coaching role back in 2017.

Shastri who was appointed as the head coach in 2014, was sacked in 2016 as Sanjay Bangar took over as the interim coach. After Bangar, Kumble took over until 2017. However, Shastri was brought back again after Kumble stepped down post India's ICC Champions Trophy defeat in the final against Pakistan.

In his interview, Shastri revealed that after 9 months of him being sacked, BCCI recalled him saying that there was some issue in the team.

It was reported then that the then coach Kumble and skipper Kohli had hit an all-time low. Talking about the controversy due to which he came back, Shastri said, 'I am not pointing fingers at the BCCI, except some individuals. It was literally egg on the faces of those who wanted me out. They opted for someone and 9 months later they came back to the very guy they threw out.'

India's World T20 outing was Shastri's last assignment as the head coach for the Team. He has now been replaced by Rahul Dravid.
