Ashes 1st Test: Root-Malan dig deep to help England fight back vs Australia in Brisbane

Under pressure after getting bowled out for 147 in the 1st innings, England seems to have found the mojo back with a roaring comeback as they are 220/2 at stumps on Day 3

Ashes 1st Test: Root-Malan dig deep to help England fight back vs Australia in Brisbane

An unbeaten 159 run stand between Captain Joe Root and Dawid Malan helped England survive Day 3 of the 1st Ashes Test in Brisbane vs Australia. Earlier in the day, the Aussies were bowled out for 425 in their 1st innings as they took a massive lead of 278 against England. The English pacers once again proved useful as the lone specialist spinner Jack Leach had a forgettable outing.

England in reply were off to a shaky start yet again with Rory Burns departing early for 13 with just 23 on the board. Skipper Pat Cummins kept the pressure up as the Aussies struck again soon with Haseeb Hameed departing in the 2nd session.

The hosts were expected then to run through the English middle order but Joe Root once again proved to be the thorn in the flesh. The captain along with Dawid Malan survived the rest of the day as England marched on to reach 220/2 at stumps on Day 3. Australia still lead by 58 runs but the match is now firmly in balance with 2 full days of the match left. Rain could play spoilsport in the Test match as showers are expected on Day 4 in Brisbane.
