Ashes 4th Test: England take late advantage on a rain-marred Day 1 at Sydney vs Australia

England took two crucial wickets in the extended post-tea session of the 4th Ashes Test on Day 1, which was marred by rain at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

At stumps on Day 1, Australia were 126-3 with Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja at the crease.

Earlier, Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first on a green-tinged Sydney wicket but only 22 Overs were bowled till the tea session due to a rain break.

Stuart Broad provided England's first breakthrough as he removed David Warner (30) for the eighth time in the past seven Ashes Tests.

Marcus Harris and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the Australian innings in the final session with a 60-run partnership before Anderson got the wicket of Harris (38).

Meanwhile, Mark Wood dismissed Labuschange (28) in the next over, putting Australia in a spot of bother.

However, Smith and Khawaja showed solid defensive techniques before the rain forced early stumps on Day 1.
