Ahead of the much-anticipated Ashes, England suffered a major setback as star pacer James Anderson could miss the opening Test against Australia due to an injury, suggest reports. However, the English Cricket Board is yet to confirm the development of Anderson's participation in the upcoming event.

The 39-year-old veteran cricketer has a minor issue in his calf because of which he will not be reportedly available at the Gabba for the first Test starting December 8th.

Speaking about Anderson's health, Joss Buttler said that while he is fit he will just be rested for the first Test for precautionary purposes.

The English team is already without the services of Jofra Archer who is not a part of the outing as he is recovering from an elbow injury.

Anderson has claimed 60 wickets at an average of 35.43 in 18 Tests he has played Down Under. Interestingly, a similar injury made the English cricketer miss the previous version in 2019 as well.
