Athiya Shetty-KL Rahul wedding: The rise of KL Rahul in Indian cricket

Two of the big 3 Indian batters, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma tied the knot a few years ago and now it's time for the 3rd member of that group to start another inning of his life.

As KL Rahul starts this new journey with actress Athiya Shetty, let's take a look at the Indian batter's journey in cricket.

Born in Bangalore in 1992 to KN Lokesh and Rajeshwari, Rahul's father was a big fan of Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar and wanted to name his son after Gavaskar's boy but mistook Rohan Gavaskar's name as Rahul hence KL was named as Rahul.

Growing up in Mangalore, Rahul started cricket training at the age of 10. At the age of 18, he moved to Bangalore to study at Jain University and pursue his cricket career.

He was picked for India's squad in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup and made his first-class debut later that year for Karnataka in the 2010–11 season.

In 2013, Rahul was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore and he made his IPL debut that year. Since then, there was no looking back.

After a brilliant 2014–15 Duleep Trophy, Rahul got his maiden India call-up for the Test series in Australia and the batter capitalised with a hundred in the Sydney Test in that series.

His form may have come into question recently but he has so far scored 2604 runs in 78 innings in whites at an average of almost 35.

KL, flaunting a cool hairstyle, made his ODI debut in Zimbabwe in June 2016 and smashed a century in his very first one-day game.

He quickly rose through the ranks and soon became India's go-to man in ODIs and in T20Is

In the one-day format, Rahul has smashed 1870 runs at a whopping average of almost 45 in 49 innings. His numbers in the shortest format of the game are also impressive where he has also smashed 2 centuries.

Rahul was picked by the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 for which the IPL franchise shelled out ₹17 crores making him the joint highest-paid cricketer in the Indian Premier League alongside Virat Kohli then.

After leading his side to the knockouts in their very-first edition, Rahul will be eager to come back stronger in the new IPL season after his wedding.
