BCCI selectors want Mayank Yadav to be groomed for 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar series: report

India's newest speed sensation Mayank Yadav is all set to be handed a national fast-bowling contract sooner rather than later, as the world waits with bated breath for him to don the India colours.

As per an Indian Express report, BCCI selectors are mulling handing Yadav the bowling contract over fast-tracking him into the national side.

Currently, Yadav is nursing a second side strain after playing his first IPL game in three weeks for Lucknow Super Giants vs the Mumbai Indians on April 30.

The Indian Express report states that once Yadav completes his IPL commitments, he will be sent to Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA), where his medical assessment will be done. Post the assessment, he will be handed over to biomechanics experts and fast-bowling coach Troy Cooley.

Interestingly, Troy Cooley also worked with Australia captain Pat Cummins when the latter was suffering from injuries early on in his career and helped him script a comeback for the ages.

While many expected Yadav to be named in India's T20 World Cup squad, selectors seem to have a different plan for the youngster, according to the Express report.

With the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar series in sight, BCCI plans on sending the 21-year-old as part of the India 'A' team for a tour Down Under in June-July, in preparation for the Australian summer trip.

Quoting a source familiar with the developments, Indian Express said, 'The plan is to gradually increase his workload. If he is fit and ready, the ‘A’-team tour will be a good developmental tour for him. If not, we will see him in the Duleep Trophy.'

But before Yadav embarks on an international tour, physiotherapists and biomechanics will work to make him pain-free and fit.

The Indian Express report reveals that it is likely that minor tweaks will also be made to Yadav's bowling action - in running mechanics, landing and follow-through.

'It is learnt that Mayank’s back-foot landing is identified as a cause of concern as it could lead to back injuries in the future,' the report read.

Yadav made headlines in IPL 2024 when he started clocking speeds in excess of 150 kph, baffling pundits and fans alike with his exceptional talent coupled with perfect bowling.
