BCCI to hold discussion with Mohammed Shami regarding his future plans: Report

The BCCI will reportedly soon hold a discussion with Mohammed Shami, who hasn't played a single T20I since the T20 World Cup 2022.

The pacer is nursing an ankle injury and hasn't played for India since the Cricket World Cup final in November last year.

India's 3 T20Is against Afghanistan is the only T20 series which the Men in Blue will ahead of the T20 World Cup in June. But there's the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well and Shami is abnking on that to show his rhythm.

In an interview with Sports Tak, he said, "Whenever T20s are being talked about, I don't understand if I am in the scheme of things or not. But I believe that there's IPL before the T20 World Cup. I don't know what will happen but playing T20 matches before the World Cup will help you show what your rhythm and performance is. If the team management likes what it sees, I am available for selection."

Now, according to a report in the Times of India, the BCCI will talk to Shami soon to assess his future.

"There will be a discussion with Shami to know what he wants to do going ahead. He has taken a lot of workload in the last few years. This discussion was supposed to happen in South Africa. Since he didn't travel with the team, the management and selectors will talk to him very soon. It has to be clear how much cricket he wants to play beyond the IPL and Test matches," a BCCI source told the Times of India.
