After another embarrassment on the world stage, split captaincy seems to be the only answer to Team India's problems.

As per reports, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will retain the Test and ODI captaincy and Hardik Pandya will be appointed as India's new skipper in the shortest format of the game in the run-up to the 2024 T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies.

The 27-year-old has already proven his mettle as the IPL captain by winning the trophy with debutants Gujarat Titans. He also led India to a T20I series win against Ireland. The star all-rounder is also leading the Men in Blue in the 3-match T20I series in New Zealand.

After sacking the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee on Friday, BCCI also said that it expects the new chairperson to select captains in each format, a PTI report said.

India had an embarrassing finish at the T20 World Cup 2022. The Rohit Sharma-led side faced a 10-wicket drubbing by England in the semifinals Down Under.
