BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia slams Congress's Shama Mohamed for her remarks on Rohit Sharma

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia criticized Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed on Monday after she questioned the captaincy and fitness of India's cricket team leader.

Saikia expressed disappointment over what he called a trivial comment, made amidst the national team's ongoing Champions Trophy campaign. India, having topped their group by defeating New Zealand, is set to face Australia in the semifinals in Dubai on Tuesday.

Saikia remarked that such comments could potentially demoralize the team, highlighting that all players are performing at their best. He urged individuals to avoid making derogatory statements for personal publicity, emphasizing the importance of considering national interest.

Shama Mohamed's remarks ignited controversy on social media, prompting Congress to request the removal of her post.

In her now-deleted post, she criticized Rohit Sharma's fitness and captaincy. Former India spinner, Dilip Doshi, also voiced disapproval of Shama's comments, stressing that while everyone is entitled to their opinion, airing such views publicly can be harmful.

Doshi defended Rohit, emphasizing his impressive talent and cricketing fitness, despite not fitting the modern athletic mold of a cricketer.

He noted that while many cricketers might appear gym-fit, it's crucial for them to be cricket-fit, as gym-centric fitness can lead to injuries not commonly seen in previous generations.
