England's World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan retires from international cricket

The murmurs about Eoin Morgan were true as England's limited-overs skipper brought the curtains down on an illustrious international career and announced his retirement on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old made his ODI debut for Ireland in 2006 before switching to England 3 years later in 2009. He ended his 14-year-long career with England as the country's highest run-getter in ODIs. Morgan scored 6957 runs in 225 games in the 50-over format.

Apart from that, he will go down in history as the skipper who revolutionised England's white-ball cricket as it was under him that the Three Lions won their maiden ODI World Cup in 2019.

Morgan also had a glorious T20I career where he scored 2458 runs in 115 matches. He is the most successful T20I captain, winning 42 of the 72 matches he led his side in. He was also part of England's 2010 T20 World Cup-winning side.

Morgan, who went unsold in the 2022 season of the IPL, has decided to continue playing domestic cricket and is 'really looking forward to playing and captaining London Spirit in the second edition of The Hundred this year.'

Though it's not official yet, England's current vice-captain Jos Buttler is expected to fill in his shoes now.
