Fastest centurion in ODI World Cup history, Kevin O'Brien announces retirement

One of the most renowned cricketers from Ireland Kevin O'Brien decided to bring down the curtains on his international career on Tuesday.

He will always be best known for his fiery century against England in the 2011 ICC World Cup, which helped the Irish pull off one of the biggest upsets in 50-over cricket.

He smashed his ton off just 50 deliveries which still remains as the fastest hundred in an ODI World Cup.

The Irish all-rounder announced his retirement in a lengthy post on Twitter. He stated in his post that he had hoped to retire after playing the upcoming T20 World Cup, but lack of opportunities has led him to take the call now.

O'Brien made his Ireland debut in 2006 and was a key figure in his team's rise from Associate Membership to Test match status over a nearly two-decade career.

Kevin called it a day with not only a number of batting records but he retired as Ireland's leading ODI wicket-taker, with 114 scalps at an average of 32.68 and an economy rate of 5.20.
