Gujarat Titans will support skipper Shubman Gill irrespective of results, asserts Ashish Nehra

Just a day after IPL 2024 Auction, Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra revealed the reason behind appointing Shubman Gill as their new skipper.

In a virtual press meet after the auction, Nehra admitted that while it would be difficult to replace their title-winning captain Hardik Pandya, the Titans believed in Gill to do the job.

'We have seen how he (Gill) has shaped up in the past three-four years. He is 24-25 years of age but he has a good head on his shoulders,' Nehra advocated for the youngster.

Backing the 24-year-old up, the coach stated that the team and management would continue to support Gill irrespective of results.

'Yes, results are important but when you come to captaincy you have to look at other things also. We are confident that Gill is the right person (for captaincy),' Nehra concluded.

Gujarat Titans' ex-skipper Hardik Pandya left the team in November 2023 after a two-year stint which also saw them lift the IPL trophy in 2022.

Pandya's departure to Mumbai Indians saw Gill being handed the leadership mantle by the Titans.
