ICC may replace bio-bubble with a Premier League-type model

The International Cricket Council is thinking of replacing the bio-bubble model with a Premier League-type model, several reports suggested. While in a bio-bubble the players cannot get out during a particular tournament and they need to quarantine after getting in and out of it, in Premier League, players are allowed to walk out, there is no restriction. The only rule that is followed is testing, all the players undergo Covid testing regularly.

Unlike the bio-bubble system which is being currently followed in cricket where the close contacts of the person who has contracted the virus need to isolate, in EPL only the player who has contracted will undergo isolation.

Indian ex-coach Ravi Shastri also highlighted the stress on players who are continuously on tours due to the bio-bubble system. After India's last match at World T20, Shastri said staying in long isolations as the Indian team did, might take a toll on players' mental well-being.

While ICC might consider the Premier League model eventually, as of now the council has not officially given any timeframe for the change.
