ICC Rankings: Suryakumar Yadav extends lead at the top, Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma also move up

ICC Rankings: Suryakumar Yadav extends lead at the top, Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma also move up

Suryakumar Yadav, the No. 1 T20I batter, further solidified his leading position in the ICC Men's T20I Batter Rankings. This came following his dynamic performance against South Africa in the second T20I held in Gqeberha. Yadav's rapid half-century extended his lead at the top.

Yadav, an aggressive right-handed batsman, added 10 rating points to his tally after his impressive innings of 56 runs off 36 balls, notwithstanding India's narrow defeat by five wickets in the thrilling match.

With a total of 865 rating points, Yadav stands significantly ahead of his closest competitors, Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan, who holds 787 points, and Aiden Markram of South Africa, with 758 points. This substantial lead comes as the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is less than six months away.

Yadav first attained the top spot in the rankings during the last T20 World Cup in Australia. Given his current form, it seems likely that he will maintain this position in the upcoming World Cup scheduled to take place in the West Indies and USA.

In the meantime, South African opener Reeza Hendricks has climbed to the eighth position after scoring 49 runs against India. Indian players Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh have also risen in the rankings, now standing at 55th and 59th positions, respectively.

On the bowling front, Afghanistan's Rashid Khan has risen to the top of the T20I bowlers' rankings, a position he now shares with India's Ravi Bishnoi, who was not selected for the South Africa tour.

South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi also witnessed a significant rise, now ranked 10th after his economical performance of 1/18 in the recent match. Indian left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved up to the 32nd position, while Aiden Markram has ascended to second place in the T20I all-rounder rankings, trailing behind India's Ravindra Jadeja.

The Test rankings have also seen notable changes following the exhilarating Bangladesh-New Zealand series, which concluded in a 1-1 draw. Glenn Phillips, who was named Player of the Match, leaped from outside the top 100 to 55th in the batting rankings and climbed 42 places to 24th among all-rounders.

New Zealand's Ajaz Patel and Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan and Nayeem Hasan also made impressive strides in the Test bowlers' rankings, further intensifying the competition behind the top-ranked bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin.
