ICC Rankings: Yashasvi Jaiswal leaps into Top 20 after historic double hundred against England

In a remarkable ascent, India's promising opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made a significant leap into the top 20 of the ICC Test Rankings for batters. Following his exceptional performance against England, where he hit consecutive double centuries, Jaiswal has climbed 14 places to secure the 15th spot. At just 22, Jaiswal has etched his name alongside cricketing luminaries, becoming one of the seven global cricketers, and the third Indian after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli, to achieve double centuries in back-to-back Tests.

Jaiswal's contributions were pivotal in India's commanding victory over England in the second Test at Visakhapatnam, where he scored 209, and in Rajkot, with an unbeaten 214, propelling India to a 2-1 lead in the series. The ICC acknowledged his achievements in their latest statement, highlighting his meteoric rise in the rankings.

Ravindra Jadeja, another star of the Rajkot Test, improved his batting rank from 41st to 34th after scoring a century in the first innings. His performance with the ball, claiming seven wickets across both innings, also saw him ascend to the sixth position in the bowling rankings. Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently joined the prestigious 500 Test wicket club, advanced to second place behind Jasprit Bumrah.

In the all-rounders' category, Jadeja and Ashwin maintained their dominance, holding the top two positions, with Jadeja reaching a career-high 469 rating points.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma also saw an improvement, moving up to the 12th position following his 131-run knock in Rajkot. Shubman Gill, nearly hitting a century in the second innings, climbed to 35th place. New entrants Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel made their debut in the rankings at 75th and 100th places, respectively.

Despite his absence from the series, Virat Kohli remains the top-ranked Indian batter in the seventh position. On the English side, Ben Duckett's performance earned him a rise to 13th place in the batting rankings.

New Zealand's Kane Williamson continues to lead the batting rankings, with his recent century against South Africa marking his seventh in as many Tests, a record he shares with cricket greats like Aravinda de Silva, Mohammad Yousuf, and Clyde Walcott.
