ICC: Zimbabwe's Brendan Taylor banned for 3 and a half years

ICC: Zimbabwe's Brendan Taylor banned for 3 and a half years

ICC on Friday banned the former Zimbabwean skipper Brendan Taylor for 3 and a half years over charges of corruption and for breaching a doping test. ICC's investigation started soon after the 35-year-old posted a long confession note on Twitter accepting that he had failed to report about a corrupt practice in time.

In its statement, ICC said that the all-rounder has been banned from all forms of cricket after he accepted breaching 4 charges of breaching the ICC anti-corruption code. Taylor who has been allegedly involved with an Indian businessman since 2019, was asked to spot fix during Zimbabwe's tour of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The 4 charges levelled against the cricketer were that he failed to inform the global cricket body timely about it, he accepted gifts and money from the alleged businessman, he also concealed information which led to further delay in the investigation.

While Taylor who has played 284 international matches agreed on all the charges, he also accepted one charge of breaching the doping test which he failed in his last international game in September 2021. He tested positive for a 'cocaine metabolite' and has been now issued a month of suspension.

The one-month suspension will concurrently run with the 3 and a half year ban. Taylor who is currently under rehabilitation will be free to resume his participation in cricket starting 28th July 2025.
