IND vs ENG 4th Test: Joe Root breaks 'Bazball' shackles to slam long-awaited Test century

The fourth Test match between India and England unfolded with significant performances that captured the essence of cricket's unpredictability and skill. On one end, a newcomer proved his mettle, deserving of the grand stage, while on the other, an established cricketing stalwart, Joe Root, reaffirmed his class with an exceptional innings, a testimony to his eternal grace.

Root's masterful 106 not out was the cornerstone of England's batting on the opening day, even as partners at the other end struggled to find stability. This innings marked a significant milestone for Root, being his first century in the past 15 Test innings and his inaugural ton since June 2023.

Demonstrating strategic acumen, Root tactfully navigated the innings, accumulating nine boundaries. His approach was notably cautious against the sweep shot, a decision influenced by the pitch's unpredictable bounce. Root's exemplary performance etched his name into cricketing lore, setting a record for the most Test centuries by any player against India, with a total of 10 to his name, elevating his career Test centuries to 31.

This innings was a pivotal moment for Root, who had been unable to surpass a score of 30 in his last six innings, with his highest being 29 in the first Test against India in Hyderabad in January 2024. Root's resurgence in the fourth Test not only underscored his undeniable talent and perseverance but also indicated his breaking free from the constraints of the aggressive 'Bazball' strategy, showcasing a return to form that England had been eagerly awaiting.
