IND vs NZ 1st ODI: Latham, Williamson power New Zealand to a 7-wicket win over India in 1st ODI

A batting masterclass from Tom Latham who scored an unbeaten 145 and a solid 94 not-out from New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, helped the Kiwis beat India by 7 wickets in the 1st ODI. The Blackcaps have now taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series.

Chasing a 307-run target, the two Kiwi batters stitched together a 221-run partnership as they ensured New Zealand reached the target without too much pressure with 17 balls to spare. New Zealand weren't off to a great start as they lost Finn Allen, Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell before the 100-run mark. But the partnership between Latham and Williamson took the match away from the Indians. Umran Malik picked up two wickets while giving away 66 runs in his 10 overs.

Earlier, Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill put together 124-runs for the opening wicket with both the batters notching up half-centuries. But the innings slowed down as the visitors lost 4 quick wickets. Shreyas Iyer though counter-attacked with an 80 off 76 balls and a quick-fire 37 off 16 balls from Washington Sundar ensured that the Indian team crossed the 300-run mark. Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee took 3 wickets each for New Zealand.
