The Kiwis looked good for a big total as the openers put together a 151-run stand. But Axar Patel ran through their batting with his 5th Test 5-wicket-haul in just his 7th innings. New Zealand lost its last 9 wickets for just 99 runs as India secured a crucial 49-run 1st innings lead.

The hosts had to see off 5 overs in the last session but Shubman Gill fell for just 1. Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara are at the crease as the game is poised for a mouth-watering Day 4.
