Tilak Varma was the brightest spot for India even as the Men in Blue failed to chase down a modest total and lost the T20I series opener against West Indies by 4 runs.

Opting to bat first, captain Rovman Powell and in form Nicholas Pooran steered the Windies' sinking ship with a 48 off 32 and 41 off 34 respectively.

The duo took the team to a respectable total of 149/6. Yuzi Chahal and Arshdeep Singh both picked 2 wickets each for India.In reply,

Varma's fearless 39 off 22 balls on his maiden outing for India gave some hope after India's top order faltered.

However, India presented a shoddy show towards the end, with 37 needed off the last 30 balls and 6 wickets in hand, the line up came crashing down to end at 145/9 in 20 overs, thereby giving the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 5-match T20I series.
