India vs Bangladesh: Top Records Achieved during 1st Test in Chennai

The 1st Test match was a comfortable triumph for India, showcasing a stunning 280-run victory over Bangladesh in Chennai, and along the way, a host of historic milestones were achieved! Let’s dive into the highlights of this epic match.

India are now net positive

With this massive win, India have officially turned the tide in Test history! We now have more Test wins than losses in their cricket history - 179 victories in comparison to 178 defeats, finally net positive.

Pant Equals MS Dhoni

Rishabh Pant returned to Test cricket with a bang. With his 6th Test century, he matched the legendary MS Dhoni for the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket. What’s truly impressive is that Pant has achieved this in just 34 Tests! It’s safe to say he’s on track to double Dhoni’s record before he hangs up his gloves.

Bumrah Joins Elite list

Jasprit Bumrah reached a significant milestone by becoming the sixth Indian fast bowler to take 400 international wickets! With 164 in Tests, 149 in ODIs, and 89 in T20Is, he achieved this remarkable feat in just 227 innings. Simply extraordinary!

Hasan Mahmud's Historic feat

On the Bangladeshi side, pacer Hasan Mahmud made waves by becoming the first bowler from his country to claim a five-wicket haul in a Test match on Indian soil. His impressive figures of 5/83 included the scalps of heavyweights like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant, he will remember it for a long time to come.

Major Milestone for Ashwin-Jadeja

In the first innings, India faced a daunting situation at 144/6, but then Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja turned the tide with a monumental 199-run partnership for the seventh wicket. This record-setting collaboration is now the highest by an Indian duo in Chennai!

Ashwin Makes History

In a brilliant display, Ravichandran Ashwin equaled the late Shane Warne’s record for the most five-wicket hauls in Test history, marking his 37th fifer. At 38, he also became the oldest Indian to achieve this milestone, surpassing the record set by Vinoo Mankad.
