India Vs England, 2nd ODI: Reece Topley’s career-best haul helps hosts level series

India Vs England, 2nd ODI: Reece Topley’s career-best haul helps hosts level series

A superb bowling effort from England-led by Reece Topley helped the hosts thrash India by 100 runs in the second ODI at the Lord's cricket ground on Thursday night. With the victory, the Three Lions levelled the 3-match series 1-1.

Chasing a 247-run target, Topley got rid of India's openers early with Captain Rohit Sharma departing for a 10-ball duck in just the third over.

Virat Kohli, who was returning to the lineup after missing the first game, once again failed with the bat. David Willey had him caught behind for just 16 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja all got starts but perished in their 20s. Topley then provided the finishing touches by not allowing the Indian tail to wag. He finished with figures of 6/24, the best-ever figures for an England bowler in ODIs.

Earlier, having been put in to bat, Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow provided the hosts a steady start before Hardik broke the 41-run stand. On a two-paced track, Chahal varied his lengths superbly and got rid of Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Ben Stokes to pull England back.]

However, Moeen Ali and David Willey added 62 runs for the seventh wicket to help England set up a 247-run target, a score that proved to be too big a total for India to conquer.
